Abstract

This dissertation by Matilda Karlsson investigates the healing and long-term outcomes of two partial thickness wound models using different wound dressings. Conducted at Linköping University, the research evaluates four established dressing treatments, including hydrofibre covered with film, porcine xenografts, and polyurethane foam with and without silver. The study focuses on split thickness skin graft donor sites and partial thickness burns through randomized controlled trials. Results indicate that hydrofibre dressings lead to faster healing and more satisfactory scarring outcomes for donor sites, while silver foam dressings expedite healing in burns. Factors such as sex, wound extent, and infection are analyzed for their impact on healing times and scarring. The findings aim to inform evidence-based practices for wound treatment in clinical settings, benefiting medical professionals and researchers.
