Smart Card Security: Applications, Attacks, and Countermeasures provides an overview of smart card technology and explores different security attacks and countermeasures associated with it. It covers the origin of smart cards, types of smart cards, and how they work. It discusses security attacks associated with hardware, software, data, and users that are a part of smart card-based systems. The book starts with an introduction to the concept of smart cards and continues with a discussion of the different types of smart cards in use today, including various aspects regarding their configuration, underlying operating system, and usage. It then discusses different hardware- and software-level security attacks in smart card-based systems and applications and the appropriate countermeasures for these security attacks. It then investigates the security attacks on confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data in smart card-based systems and applications, including unauthorized remote monitoring, communication protocol exploitation, denial of service (DoS) attacks, and so forth, and presents the possible countermeasures for these attacks. The book continues with a focus on the security attacks against remote user authentication mechanisms in smart card-based applications and proposes a possible countermeasure for these attacks. Then it covers different communication standards for smart card-based applications and discusses the role of smart cards in various application areas as well as various open-source tools for the development and maintenance of smart card-based systems and applications. The final chapter explains the role of blockchain technology for securing smart card-based transactions and quantum cryptography for designing secure smart card-based algorithms. Smart Card Security: Applications, Attacks, and Countermeasures provides you with a broad overview of smart card technology and its various applications.

Being able to make and receive payments is an essential facet of modern life. It is integral to the banking and finance systems, and it touches all global citizens. In some areas, payment systems are rapidly evolving - moving swiftly from paper payment instruments, to electronic, to real-time - but in others, underdeveloped payment systems hold back economic and social development. This book is intended to assist the reader in navigating the payments landscape. The author explores highly topical areas, such as the role of payment systems in enabling commerce to contribute to the development of emerging economies, the evolution of payment systems from paper instruments to computerization, the role of cryptocurrencies, and the slow decline of plastic credit and debit cards owing to alternative forms of payment being introduced. Altogether, this book provides a comprehensive overview of the evolution of payment and offers projections for the future, encouraging readers to explore their own predictions, using the framework that the book has provided. It is vital reading for technologists, marketers, executives and investors in the FinTech sector, as well as academics teaching business and technology courses.

'In Pursuit of Proof' brings forth a hitherto unattempted history of claiming, making and verifying identification documents in the urban margins of India and Delhi in particular. The book summons to life past and contemporary processes of bureaucratic recognition and administrative verification of subjects by locating them in the everyday material worlds of especially the poor. In attempting to illuminate the paper regimes of welfare that are now being radically transformed owing to the technological infrastructures of Aadhaar, the author resorts to eclectic forms of ethnography and archival research to delineate the pursuit of proof across various timescales.

"This book aims to illustrate a little-known aspect of ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s art, the “artist’s invitation,” namely the material (be it a card or piece of paper) printed for the specific purpose of documenting an exhibition. The criterion employed to choose the material was that of privileging the participation of the artist him- or herself in the creative process that led to the object’s production. The artistic context on which this book focuses is that of Minimalism, Conceptual Art, Land Art, Pop Art, Fluxus, and Actionism, including Spanish and South American art, the importance of which warrants a new critical attention for the historical and political significance these movements had in their respective sites. The materials considered here come almost entirely from the collections of Bruno and Alessandra Tonini, Christoph Schifferli, Giorgio Colombo (Milan), and the Lafuente Archive (Santander)."
