Nowadays, the term ‘smart city’ gains increasing popularity to denote urbanized areas where efforts have been made to introduce ICT as a medium to improve information exchange on multiple fields to ameliorate living conditions. There are various ‘smart’ playing fields such as economy, people, governance, mobility, environment and living. The objectives of a smart city are not optimally reached without participation of citizens. Introducing children participation to smart city projects should have a positive impact on the children themselves (both in terms of skills as children’s rights), their communities and the city or organization. In the framework of this research, a workshop was constructed in order to assess qualitatively and quantitatively the evolution of children on two general domains: their knowledge about smart cities as well as their interpretation of participation in smart cities. The results showed that there was indeed an evolution on both domains. Accordingly, the importance of some typical assets of smart cities in the opinion of the children were measured and showed that some topics, such as entrepreneurship, were more important than others.
