Abstract

The Department of Posthuman Settlements (as the fictional organization through which we experiment with seriousness using theories of critical post humanism applied to the reading of human settlements), presents an investigation of the political ecology of the West Bank through the agency of plants, technology and humans. It explores the actions of actors in the Israeli occupation of Palestine, both human and non-human. This is to understand the modes of violence they perpetrate on the landscape through instances of the pine tree, land grabs and scorched earth policies amongst other destructive forces and how variable actors continue to respond to these crimes on the wider landscape through botanical gardens, gardening practices, ruins, heritage sites, human/nonhuman life to explore the degree to which they work with or against each other in the liberation of the wretched earth and the wretched of the earth in the age of the Anthropocene. We hope to decipher what the Posthuman configuration of space entails through these agencies as they assemble and disassemble in space and time within variable settlement patterns that are in constant flux, unsettling. This begins to find different ways of articulating unsettlement as ‘an act, process or instance of unsettling’ within space-time conceptions where humans and nonhumans are entangled inhabitants given the fact that matter is not always ‘settled’.

Abstract

Die wichtigsten Texte zu OMA / Rem Koolhaas The activities of Rem Koolhaas and his staff were widely discussed even before the foundation of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in 1975. Today, many contributions on the work of OMA can be found in the international architectural press, including Koolhaas' own writings. The book contains about 150 selected texts-interviews, feature articles, essays, lead articles, reviews, letters, introductions, appraisals, and competition reports that have been compiled for the first time. This compilation not only provides a fresh and critical view of the oeuvre of one the most important contemporary architects, but also represents an account of the debate on architectural and urban design in recent decades.
