This book discusses the ways in which the algebras in a locally finite quasivariety determine its lattice of subquasivarieties. The book starts with a clear and comprehensive presentation of the basic structure theory of quasivariety lattices, and then develops new methods and algorithms for their analysis. Particular attention is paid to the role of quasicritical algebras. The methods are illustrated by applying them to quasivarieties of abelian groups, modular lattices, unary algebras and pure relational structures. An appendix gives an overview of the theory of quasivarieties. Extensive references to the literature are provided throughout.

Introduction: At the heart of patient-centered care, patient experience provides a subjective and objective assessment of the patient's journey. Patient-Reported Experience Measures are one of the recommended methods for measuring and improving treatments. This research evaluates whether a change of the type of information provided to patients when performing the myocardial perfusion scintigraphy examination in the Nuclear Medicine Department of Liège positively affects their experience. Material and method: A four months prospective quasi-experimental study with control group and quantitative analysis via a questionnaire survey. A written medium has been created and its impact evaluated with a group of patients, compared to the information usually disseminated. Statistical tests of binary logistic regression were applied and analyzed by interpretations of Odds Ratio and 95% confidence intervals. Results and conclusions: The impact of the distribution of the pamphlet was evaluated at three points. First of all its influence has been measured as regards information received before the examination, then in the evaluation of all the information received, after conducting the myocardial perfusion scintigraphy. Finally it has been estimated in the positive patient experience in the Nuclear Medicine Department. Its impact was limited in the assessment of the information received prior to the examination in influencing the choice of the kind of information desired by the patients who passed through. It had no effect in the other two moments evaluated. The study found other influencing factors. The appraisal of the overall information received depends on the importance to patients of being informed, simultaneously associated with the quality of the information provided during the consultation in which the examination is prescribed, and explanations considered clear and accurate on examination day. The latter are the only factor contributing to the positive patients experience. As the study has shown its limits at this level, it might be interesting to continue the research towards a targeted questioning of patients via interviews, which would make it possible to implement appropriate solutions based on a care partnership with patients.

Every year millions of families are affected by the imprisonment of a family member. Children of imprisoned parents alone can be counted in millions in the USA and in Europe. It is a bewildering fact that while we have had prisons for centuries, and the deprivation of liberty has been a central pillar in the Western mode of punishment since the early nineteenth century, we have only relatively recently embarked upon a serious discussion of the severe effects of imprisonment for the families and relatives of offenders and the implications this has for society.0This book draws together some of the excellent research that addresses the impact of criminal justice and incarceration in particular upon the families of offenders. It assembles examples of recent and ongoing studies from eight different countries in order to not only learn about the secondary effects and 'collateral consequences' of imprisonment but also to understand what the experiences and lived realities of prisoners' families means for the sociology of punishment and our broader0understanding of criminal justice systems. While punishment and society scholarship has gained significant ground in recent years it has often remained silent on the ways in which the families of prisoners are affected by our practices of punishment. This book provides evidence of the importance of including families within this scholarship and explores themes of legitimacy, citizenship, human rights, marginalization, exclusion, and inequality.

Little attention has been paid to the development of Australian private law throughout the first half of the twentieth century. Using the law of tort as an example, Mark Lunney argues that Australian contributions to common law development need to be viewed in the context of the British race patriotism that characterised the intellectual and cultural milieu of Australian legal practitioners. Using not only primary legal materials but also newspapers and other secondary sources, he traces Australian developments to what Australian lawyers viewed as British common law. The interaction between formal legal doctrine and the wider Australian contexts in which that doctrine applied provided considerable opportunities for nuanced innovation in both the legal rules themselves and in their application. This book will be of interest to both lawyers and historians keen to see how notions of Australian identity have contributed to the development of an Australian law.

The Historical Foundations of Grotius' Analysis of Delict explores the origins of a generalised model of liability for wrongdoing in the history of European private law. Using Grotius as its focal point, it analyses the extent to which earlier civilian and theological doctrine shaped his views. It divides Grotius' approach into three elements - the infringement of a right, fault, and remediation - and traces the development of parallel concepts in earlier traditions. It argues that Grotius was influenced by the writings of Thomists to a far greater extent than has previously been acknowledged, virtually eclipsing any sign of civilian influence except where Romanist learning had already been incorporated into theological doctrine.

"The visual images of Queen Elizabeth I displayed in contemporary portraits and perpetuated and developed in more recent media, such as film and television, make her one of the most familiar and popular of all British monarchs. This collection of essays examines the diversity of the queen's extensive iconographical repertoire, focusing on both visual and textual representations of Elizabeth, not only in portraiture and literature, but also in contemporary sermons, speeches and alchemical treatises. The collection broadens current critical thinking about Elizabeth, as each of the essays contributes to the debate about the ways in which the queen's developing iconicity was not simply a celebratory mode, but also encoded criticism of her. Each of these essays explains the ways in which the varied representations of Elizabeth reflect the political and cultural anxieties of her subjects" --Back cover.

This book analyzes the benefits of and legal concerns in connection with the delegated legislation of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone as a prime example of experimental legislation in Chinese law. It offers solutions for improving the legal design of experimental regulations in Special Economic Zones by striking a balance between the pursuit of rapid socio-economic progress on the one hand, and the increasing need and will to govern by the rule of law on the other. The book offers a valuable guide for the academic community and legal practitioners, as well as students eager to gain insights into Chinese constitutional law and the conflict between legality and achieving reforms.

This 2018 Article IV Consultation highlights the important challenges Algeria continues to face as a result of the fall in oil prices four years ago. Despite sizable fiscal consolidation in 2017, the fiscal and current account deficits remain large. Real GDP growth slowed sharply, driven mainly by a contraction in hydrocarbon production, although growth in the nonhydrocarbon sector was stable. Unemployment increased to 11.7 percent in September 2017 from 10.5 in September 2016 and remains particularly high among youth and women. Average inflation declined from 6.4 percent in 2016 to 5.6 percent owing to slowing inflation for manufactured goods and services, and stood at 3.4 percent year over year in April 2018.

This book studies the fundamental conflicts between the protections on the legal rights and interests of victims and the freedom of infringers to act first. It is divided into four parts, the first of which explores the relevant legal methodology in order to provide possible solutions to difficult problems in Chinese tort liability law. Secondly, it puts forward a range of suggestions on how to resolve key issues in China’s torts liability law, including the general provisions; the provisions concerning the fault principle; the provisions of the non-fault principle; the special liability relation; damages; and defenses and related issues. Thirdly, the book addresses major institutional issues, including: the theory of consensus force; joint infringements; and operators’ duty of care; as well as several key relations: between the right to claim insurance compensation and the right to claim compensation for personal injury; between the right to claim tort liability and the right to exercise property rights; and between the right to claim tort liability and the right to reject unjust enrichment. Further aspects in this section include compensation for death; mental damages; pure economic loss and compensation; punitive compensation; and compensation for road traffic accidents. Lastly, the book explores special issues in tort liability law, e.g. the infringement of media rights, and the specific tort liability in various administrative laws and regulations.
