Aucun doute : la catégorie du « genre/Gender » a bien fait son entrée dans l’institution universitaire française. Mieux encore, cette catégorie d’analyse « voyageuse » se reconfigure sans cesse au gré des transferts transatlantiques et des appropriations disciplinaires qu’elle connaît. Le présent volume aborde différentes formes de narration contemporaine, de la fiction ou au film à l’entretien clinique ou au récit de vie. Il est né de la volonté de croiser, autour du problème de la narration genrée, cette réalité française « décalée » avec des perspectives développées plus tôt dans la recherche germanophone sur le genre. Les études sur la narration ouvrent un large champ d’exploration et d’expérimentation des identités. Dans le sillage du Performative Turn, il devient possible de penser le genre comme l’un des éléments constitutifs de l’acte narratif. Le genre est le résultat d’un dire qui est, dans le même temps, un faire. Dire « je suis femme/homme », c’est en partie se constituer en tant que tel-le. La narration de l’identité de genre apparaît alors comme une éternelle refiguration, c’est-à-dire une manière signifiante pour soi d’arranger et d’agencer son récit de soi pour les autres. Dès lors, la narration de soi fonctionne comme un espace performatif de représentation construit par le sujet et au sein duquel il se définit in medias res, dans une constante évolution.

Edmund Tilney dedicated to Queen Elizabeth in I568-a time when she was under considerable pressure to marry-a spirited dialogue concerning appropriate behavior in marriage. In Tilney's conduct book, which was modeled on Erasmus's Conjugium and Castiglione's Courtier, fictional counterparts to such notables as Vives, Erasmus, Heloise, and the queen herself all make an appearance to offer advice on how to nurture the flower of friendship within marriage. Extraordinarily popular for a generation following its first publication, it is available here for the first time in a critical edition that includes a comprehensive essay by Valerie Wayne.In her introduction, Wayne examines the dialogue's competing notions of conjugality within their historical and literary contexts and illustrates the impact of humanism on Protestant and Puritan positions. Since marriage was the most common means by which Renaissance women in Protestant countries could sustain themselves outside their parental home, ideologies of marriage became a primary means by which women were constructed as subjects. Wayne explores the range of ideologies presented in The Flower of Friendship, illuminating the contradictory claims of the humanist position in relation to the conflicts within Elizabethan culture over the queen's resistance to marriage.This edition of a lively debate on marital and sexual conduct in the Renaissance will be welcomed by students and scholars of Renaissance literature, culture, and history, and by others interested in gender issues and the history of marriage.

Choices made in macroeconomic policies - such as government spending, taxation, monetary policy and financial regulation - have distinct distributive consequences for women and men. They also shape the constraints within which efforts to advance gender equality must operate. The implications of gender dynamics for macroeconomics extends beyond consideration of distributive outcomes. The unpaid and non-market work that women perform - running a household, bringing up children - is unrecognized and uncounted in macroeconomic variables used to formulate policy. Yet the economic consequences of these unpaid activities are far-reaching: contributing to the well-being of society, affecting productive activities in the market economy and creating the foundation for the long-run sustainability of our economies.

It has long been assumed that economic growth and women's growing participation in the paid workforce would eventually take care of gender inequalities, and yet there is little evidence that faster growth will achieve this. In addition it ignores the valuable and quantifiable role that the unpaid work of women for their families contributes to the economy.

James Heintz tackles the shortcomings of macroeconomics in relation to gender dynamics and challenges the dominant methods and measurements, suggesting new ways of framing macroeconomic concepts. He concludes by considering implications for how this new way of thinking could transform policymaking in the future.

In Elasticity in Domesticity: White women in Rhodesian Zimbabwe, 1890-1979 Ushehwedu Kufakurinani examines the colonial experiences of white women in what was later called Rhodesia. He demonstrates the extent to which the state and society appropriated white women’s labour power and the workings of the domestic ideology in shaping white women’s experiences. The author also discusses how and to what extent white women appropriated and deployed the domestic ideology. Institutional as well as personal archives were consulted which include official correspondence, diaries, personal letters, newsletters, magazines, commissions of inquiry, among other sources.

"Drawing on a wealth of scholarship by second-wave feminists and historians of religion, race, and colonialism, Scott shows that the gender equality invoked today as a fundamental and enduring principle was not originally associated with the term “secularism” when it first entered the lexicon in the nineteenth century. In fact, the inequality of the sexes was fundamental to the articulation of the separation of church and state that inaugurated Western modernity. Scott points out that Western nation-states imposed a new order of women?s subordination, assigning them to a feminized familial sphere meant to complement the rational masculine realms of politics and economics.
