The Maarten Van Severen Chair (MVSC) was founded in 2015 by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts at University College Ghent and the Maarten Van Severen Foundation with the aim of conveying the relevance and significance of his work for today's designers. Erwan Bouroullec, one half of the design team of brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, was the first to hold the chair in 2015. He gave a master class and two lectures, which resulted in this richly illustrated first edition of the MVSC cahier. Not only does the diminutive book include extracts from his lectures, but it also offers fascinating documentation of the student projects produced during the workshop he supervised.

Virtually every revolution in architecture has been preceded by a revolution in materials: think iron, glass, steel, concrete, plastics, or composites. What is the next revolutionary material that will reshape the very nature of architecture' A solid that's lighter than air, metal latticework so delicate it rests on a dandelion, building insulation made from processed seaweed, self-generating microbial glue that repairs cracks in concrete, or transparent solar panels' Materials expert Blaine Brownell, author of our bestselling Transmaterial series, reveals emerging trends and applications that are transforming the technological capacity, environmental performance, and design potential of architecture in Transmaterial Next. This book is an essential compendium for thinking architects, designers, and other creative professionals passionate about materials and looking for their bleeding edge and practical implementation.

Clay is back : the age-old craft of ceramics is being embraced by a new generation of urban makers and collectors—and by interior designers. Here, Katie Treggiden explores the contemporary revival of pottery, focusing on six inspiring cities and their makers. Twenty-five young and passionate ceramicists in New York, London, Tokyo, Copenhagen, Sydney, and Sao Paulo introduce us to their work, their studios, and their inspiration. Urban Potters: Makers in the City will appeal to a broad audience—not only to those who practice pottery themselves, but also to anyone interested in the handmade. The book also includes a practical source list of places to buy handmade ceramics in the six cities featured.
