De Vlaamse universiteiten doen het uitstekend. De studentenaantallen blijven stijgen, het studieaanbod is ruim en flexibel, de administratie steeds efficiënter. Het aantal doctoraatsstudenten is de laatste 15 jaar verdubbel (van 5000 in 1999 tot 10000 in 2014) en het aantal postdoctorale onderzoekers overstijgt vandaag het aantal professoren. Nooit zijn de vrijgemaakte middelen voor onderzoek en innovatie zo hoog geweest. Nooit zijn de publicaties en de internationale samenwerkingsakkoorden zo talrijk geweest. Onze universiteiten worden met regelmaat doorgelicht en doen het opmerkelijk goed in internationale rankings. Het New Public Management dat een paar decennia geleden ingevoerd werd om universiteiten adequaat te beheren, blijkt dus zijn vruchten af te werpen. Of zitten er toch adders onder het groene gras? Dit Standpunt analyseert een aantal nefaste gevolgen van de nieuwe beleidsvoering aan de universiteit, meer bepaald voor het ambt van hoogleraar.

How can teacher education prepare future teachers for their work in increasingly diverse classrooms? How does the concept of plurilingualism inform language educational policy in different countries? What are the current opportunities and challenges in the domain of internationalisation in teacher education? The contributions to this volume address these questions from different theoretical perspectives, and with a strong emphasis on the actual practices in various classrooms. At a time when simplistic, essentialist, biased, and discriminatory ideologies and practices see a rebirth in public discourse, and represent a risk to education, the contributors here take stock and describe some worthwhile alternatives. The first set of chapters addresses the integration of ethnic, religious, and gender diversity in teacher education colleges. In the second part, the notion of plurilingualism in different educational contexts is explored from a critical sociolinguistic point of view. The chapters in the third part present evidence from innovative international academic exchange programs and how they contribute to socio-spatial learning amongst others. The common denominator in this volume is the notion of convergence - the coexistence of people and practices in diverse contexts.

Through a narrative inquiry approach, this book examines the personal professional journeys of teacher educators who have undertaken self studies, and/or researched the professional development of teacher educators. The theme of the book is how change, through professional transitions and transformations and notably, through self study research, has shaped the professional identities and practices of these teacher educators. Each chapter is an exploration of how the author/s ‘became’ teacher educators in relation to personal and/or professional transitions, such as transitioning from teacher to teacher educator; moving between different institutional and geographic contexts; or from changes in philosophical, policy and/or pedagogical understandings over time. Each narrative draws on the author’s self study experience, and develops their knowledge further by presenting the wisdom they have gained over their career as teacher educators. The book concludes with a discussion of the connections between the diverse experiences of the authors, and what can be learned from their accumulated wisdom about what is means to become a teacher educator in a dynamic and ever-changing educational landscape.  .

In 2017 verschijnt zijn roman die gebaseerd is op zijn ervaringen.
