L'importance des compétences motrices comme pré-requis au cursus scolaire et à l'intégration dans la vie sociale a été attestée dans le cadre de nombreuses études. Les enfants déficitaires sur le plan de ces compétences, réussissent moins bien leur scolarité, sont souvent isolés sur le plan social et peuvent développer une variété de problèmes au cours de leur vie. Cette révision du M-ABC permet aux professionnels d’identifier et de décrire les difficultés ou les troubles moteurs de leurs jeunes patients grâce à l’utilisation de normes récentes. L'outil comprend un test standardisé et un questionnaire qui sont complémentaires dans le recueil d’informations. Le test implique l’enfant directement, le questionnaire est rempli par un adulte de l'entourage de l'enfant (parent ou enseignant) qui évalue les compétences motrices de l’enfant. Le test se divise en trois groupes d’âge (3 à 6 ans ; 7 à 10 ans ; 11 à 16 ans). Dans chacun des groupes d’âge, huit items sont proposés sous trois rubriques (la dextérité manuelle ; la capacité à viser et attraper ; l'équilibre statique et dynamique). Le test fournit des données quantitatives objectives relatives aux compétences psychomotrices. Des notes standard et une note totale de test peuvent être établies, afin d’évaluer la performance de l’enfant selon 3 niveaux d'alerte (dans la norme ; situation à risque exigeant un suivi ; trouble moteur manifeste). A cette évaluation formelle, s’ajoute d’autres descriptions qualitatives et systématiques indiquant de quelle manière l’enfant réalise chaque tâche (aspects perceptivo-moteurs de la performance de l’enfant). L’évaluateur devra tenir compte des facteurs non-moteurs dans le cadre de l’évaluation menée : nervosité, manque de concentration, manque de motivation apparente, crainte de l’échec face à des tâches difficiles. Les quatre utilisations principales du MABC-2 sont le dépistage, l’examen clinique avec mise en place d’une prise en charge individualisée spécifiant les objectifs à court et à long termes, l’évaluation d’une prise en charge et enfin comme outil de recherche. Professionnels concernés : professionnels responsables de l'accompagnement d'enfants ayant des difficultés psychomotrices. Public ciblé : enfants de 3 à 16 ans. Passation : individuelle. Temps de passation : 20 à 40 minutes pour le test, 10 minutes pour le questionnaire. Temps de correction : 10 minutes

The prevalence of all movement disorders among the general population has been estimated to be about 25%; they are thus among the most common neurological conditions.
