L’ouvrage examine la manière dont les études littéraires ont su tirer profit de l’élaboration des concepts fondamentaux de la pragmatique. Tout en envisageant le phénomène littéraire comme un dispositif communicationnel, l’auteure insiste sur ses particularités et met en évidence les remodelages successifs subis par des notions comme : le contexte littéraire, les actes de langages fictionnels, la référence etc. L’auteure accorde une attention particulière à l’identité des protagonistes fondamentaux de la communication littéraire, à savoir le couple formé par l’énonciateur et l’énonciataire.La deuxième partie du livre se propose de mettre la théorie à l’épreuve des textes et offre des modèles d’approche pragmatique d’œuvres littéraires diverses, appartenant surtout à l’espace culturel français et francophone contemporain.
