Anlässlich des 65. Geburtstags würdigen seine Freunde und Wegbegleiter in 28 Beiträgen den Mediävisten Klaus Herbers, Lehrstuhlinhaber für Mittelalterliche Geschichte und Historische Hilfswissenschaften an der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, mit der vorliegenden Festschrift. Der für die Festschrift gewählte Titel Zwischen Rom und Santiago nimmt Bezug auf das wissenschaftliche Schaffen des Jubilars, und auch die Einteilung des Bandes folgt seinen langjährigen Forschungsinteressen, die sich zwischen Rom und Santiago de Compostela bewegen. Aus der Perspektive verschiedener Fachdisziplinen werden neben der Geschichte der Iberischen Halbinsel auch Phänomene und Erscheinungsformen des Pilgerns beleuchtet, treten Untersuchungen von Heiligkeitsformen und Heiligenverehrung hinzu und findet das römische Papsttum als christliche Zentralinstanz Beachtung. Abgerundet wird der Band durch biographische und wissenschaftsgeschichtliche Beiträge, sowie durch ein vollständige Verzeichnis der Publikationen von Klaus Herbers und ein umfangreiches Personen- und Ortsregister. Die Festschrift wird von seinen Schülerinnen und Schülern dargereicht während zahlreiche namhafte internationale Kolleginnen und Kollegen in ihren Beiträgen an die Forschungsinteressen des Jubilars anknüpfen und damit ihre Wertschätzung für und Verbundenheit zu Klaus Herbers ausdrücken.

In Popes and Jews, 1095-1291, Rebecca Rist explores the nature and scope of the relationship of the medieval papacy to the Jewish communities of western Europe. Rist analyses papal pronouncements in the context of the substantial and on-going social, political, and economic changes of the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth centuries, as well the characters and preoccupations of individual pontiffs and the development of Christian theology. She breaks new ground in exploring the other side of the story - Jewish perceptions of both individual popes and the papacy as an institution - through analysis of a wide range of contemporary Hebrew and Latin documents. The author engages with the works of recent scholars in the field of Christian-Jewish relations to examine the social and legal status of Jewish communities in light of the papacy's authorisation of crusading, prohibitions against money lending, and condemnation of the Talmud, as well as increasing charges of ritual murder and host desecration, the growth of both Christian and Jewish polemical literature, and the advent of the Mendicant Orders. Popes and Jews, 1095-1291 is an important addition to recent work on medieval Christian-Jewish relations. Furthermore, its subject matter - religious and cultural exchange between Jews and Christians during a period crucial for our understanding of the growth of the Western world, the rise of nation states, and the development of relations between East and West - makes it extremely relevant to today's multi-cultural and multi-faith society.

Cet ouvrage est le fruit d'un colloque qui a réuni des théologiens catholiques romains et orthodoxes pour échanger ensemble sur la ou les primautés dans l'Eglise. La nouvelle édition de l'ouvrage paraîtra en 2016 autour des événements importants pour les deux Eglises et, en particulier, pour le su jet abordé. En 2015 on a célébré le cinquantenaire de la clôture du Concile Vatican II qui a changé de façon décisive pour l'Eglise catholique la manière d'entrer en rapport et de dialoguer avec les autres chrétiens. D'autre part, la vie ecclésiale orthodoxe a été marquée cette année par la réunion en Crète (Grèce) du Saint et Grand Concile de l'Eglise orthodoxe, espéré et préparé depuis plusieurs décennies. Fruit d'un engagement ecclésial profond, les contributions présentées dans ce volume proposent des analyses intéressantes et insistent sur les enjeux qui en découlent. Elles sont d'autant plus actuelles que certaines intuitions semblent bien être confirmées par l'évolution ecclésiale postérieure. La réflexion prophétique du prof. Bernard Sesboüé ou bien la solution pratique du prof. Hervé Legrand développée dans son Cahier de charges, pour ne citer que deux d'entre elles, demeurent éclairantes et peuvent inspirer la responsabilité d es théologiens pour servir l'Eglise, son unité et sa mission dans le monde d'aujourd'hui.
