One guiding principle of this cycle of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture is the importance of plurality. Since its inception the Award has aimed to be inclusive and to embrace the engagement of a diverse group of users. But equally, it has sought projects that explore a plurality of methods and architectures in achieving that goal. Here, the authors of the essays use that productive tension between architecture and plurality not only to provide a framework for the examination of the projects but also to explore the intellectual and projective means by which architecture and plurality can find other common grounds in the future.

"In 2011, Zeeshan Khan decided to travel from Dhaka via India and Pakistan to Iran and on to Europe. This book traces his journey till he left the borders of Iran, a distance he completed in about 60 days. For Khan the journey was about travelling along a historical route steeped in cultures, languages, religions and races, woven together as a an indivisible whole, elements of which had gone into making him the cosmopolitan, yet rooted, South Asian individual. While India represented somewhat familiar terrain, travelling through contemporary Pakistan and Iran was a particular eye-opener for the author. Much of the current realities of the region are reflected in the book, along with Khan's own commentary about what he observed and encountered. Equally a pleasure to read for the armchair traveller or the seasoned one, the book is a stunning snapshot of life along a well-worn route known for its spiritual depth and philosophical richness"--Provided by publisher.

Imaginative Bodies' contains a series of in-depth conversations with dancers and choreographers, composers, visual artists, Hip Hop artists, dramaturgs, a lighting designer and a puppeteer. The overall theme is defined by the body, both in relation to the place it takes in the artist's work, and in relation to wider debates on the body in philosophy, science, medicine, anthropology, and the arts. Depending on the affinities of the artist, a more specific theme has been defined for each dialogue, ranging from poetics to politics, from mythology to ecology, from intercultural studies to conflict management. The associative chains of thoughts of these talks give an intimate insight into the creative process, inspirations, sources, identity, and ways of collaborating. It is through the sentient body that we experience, know and imagine. 'Imaginative Bodies' reaffirms the central position of the body in many artistic practices.
