Abstract: This case study explores the role of attainment targets as a means of systemic quality assurance in Flanders (Belgium), an education system whose governance structures and processes are characterised by high decentralisation and the participation of multiple actors. The analysis identifies a number of key issues in the design and implementation of the attainment targets, such as difficulties in creating a common understanding and participatory governance not leading automatically to teacher ownership of the attainment targets. Three processes that were particularly challenging included the deployment of a whole-of-system approach for implementation, capacity building and the creation of a culture of evaluation. For the future, it is essential to open up participation processes to a broad range of stakeholders. Furthermore, key stakeholders should join forces in setting a shared agenda, creating momentum in implementation and raising capacity across the system, especially in new modes of teaching and assessment

Ellsworth Kelly is credited with inventing a new kind of painting, one inspired by nature and chance compositions he encountered in the world. He started taking photographs in 1950, and unlike his sketches and collages, the photographs were not part of his process of making a painting or sculpture; they were simply a record of his vision. Featuring photographs spanning four decades, this is the first book ever published on Kelly's photography, and the artist was closely involved in all aspects of its making.

This volume is the first overview of the French-born, Los Angeles–based artist Guy de Cointet (1934–83). De Cointet was fascinated with language, which he explored primarily through performance and drawing. His practice involved collecting random phrases, words and even single letters from popular culture and literary sources―he often cited Raymond Roussel’s novel Impressions of Africa as influential―and working these elements into nonlinear narratives, which were presented as plays to his audience. De Cointet is one of the major figures in Los Angeles’ Conceptual art movement of the 1970s, having strongly influenced a number of prominent Los Angeles–based artists, including Paul McCarthy and Mike Kelley. The book, written by Marie de Brugerolle and published with the Estate of Guy de Cointet, offers an overview of this enigmatic and influential oeuvre.
