›Stimmung‹ war um 1900 eine virulente Diskursfigur, die physikalisches, psychologisches, philosophisches sowie künstlerisches Wissen vermittelte. Die frühen Texte des Ingenieurs, studierten Psychologen und Dichters Robert Musil führen vor, wie ›Stimmung‹ in der Literatur inszeniert, transformiert und sogar konstituiert wird. Im Gegensatz zur bisherigen Forschung sieht Rickenbacher zwischen Die Verwirrungen des Zöglings Törleß (1906) und Vereinigungen (1911) keinen Bruch in Musils literarischem Schreiben, sondern liest beide Texte mit einer Kombination von Diskursanalyse und close reading als Elemente der gleichen historischen Wissensformation. Die Studie beschränkt sich aber nicht auf einen wissensgeschichtlichen Kommentar. Vielmehr zeigt Rickenbacher, dass das ›Wissen um Stimmung‹ in Musils Texten immer auch ein genuin literarisches Phänomen mit ethischer Tragweite ist.

What does it mean to be Black? If Blackness is not biological in origin but socially and discursively constructed, does the meaning of Blackness change over time and space? In Physics of Blackness: Beyond the Middle Passage Epistemology, Michelle M. Wright argues that although we often explicitly define Blackness as a "what," it in fact always operates as a "when" and a "where."By putting lay discourses on spacetime from physics into conversation with works on identity from the African Diaspora, Physics of Blackness explores how Middle Passage epistemology subverts racist assumptions about Blackness, yet its linear structure inhibits the kind of inclusive epistemology of Blackness needed in the twenty-first century.
