Le MICX prend place en 2015 dans un quartier en plein essor, à proximité immédiate de la future gare-passerelle conçue par Santiago Calatrava.Un quartier "trait d'union" qui, à travers la gare-passerelle, liaisonne le centrehistorique de Mons (Place Léopold en plein renouveau) à la ville nouvelle. Dans ce trait d’union le centre de congrès sera le voisin d’un hôtel 4*, d’immeubles de bureaux et denouvelleshabitations. Un quartier désormais directement relié au site des Grands Prés par un nouveau pont franchissant la Haine. L’inauguration du Centre de Congrès deMonsmarque la fin dela première réalisation architecturalestructurelled’envergure miseen œuvre dans le cadre deMons2015, Capitale européenne de la Culture. Dans quelques mois, ce sont cinq nouveaux musées et une salle dédiée à la musique, Arsonic ainsi qu’un centre d’entreprisesdesign qui seront inaugurés àMonsqui, selon les dires mêmes de Daniel Libeskind, sera «lecentre névralgique de demain». Centre névralgique qui pourra se targuer de comporter deux réalisations majeures conçues par des architectes de renommée internationale, Santiago Calatrava et Daniel Libeskind. Les mêmes qui oeuvrent actuellement au renouveau de Ground Zero à New-York!

Much recent philosophical work proposes to illuminate dilemmas of human existence with reference to the arts and culture, often to the point of submitting particular works to preconceived formulations. In this examination of three texts that respond to loss, Robert Mugerauer responds with close, detailed readings that seek to clarify the particularity of the intense force such works bring forth. Mugerauer shows how, in the face of what is irrevocably taken away as well as of what continues to be given, the unavoidable task of interpretation is ours alone. Mugerauer examines works in three different forms that powerfully call on us to respond to loss: Cormac McCarthy’s The Crossing, Daniel Libeskind’s Jewish Museum Berlin, and Wim Wenders’s film Wings of Desire. Explicating these difficult but rich works with reference to the thought of Martin Heidegger, Jean-Luc Marion, Hannah Arendt, and Emmanuel Levinas, the author helps us to experience the multiple and diverse ways in which all of us are opened to the saturated phenomena of loss, violence, witnessing, and responsibility.
