A supercritical water cooled reactor (SCWR) is one promising reactor concept selected by the Generation IV International Forum. The design and licensing of such a small-scale fuel assembly with a high pressure coolant loop, involving emergency and auxiliary systems, is the scope of the project SCWR-FQT. In this work, a numerical model of the test facility with all safety-relevant components has been elaborated with the one-dimensional system code APROS.

Among his generation of intellectuals, the eighteenth-century German philosopher Johann Gottfried Herder is recognized both for his innovative philosophy of language and history and for his passionate criticism of racism, colonialism, and imperialism. A student of Immanuel Kant, Herder challenged the idea that anyone - even the philosophers of the Enlightenment - could have a monopoly on truth. In Herder: Aesthetics against Imperialism, John K. Noyes plumbs the connections between Herder's anti-imperialism, often acknowledged but rarely explored in depth, and his epistemological investigations. Noyes argues that Herder's anti-rationalist epistemology, his rejection of universal conceptions of truth, knowledge, and justice, constitutes the first attempt to establish not just a moral but an epistemological foundation for anti-imperialism. Engaging with the work of postcolonial theorists such Dipesh Chakrabarty and Gayatri Spivak, this book is a valuable reassessment of Enlightenment anti-imperialism that demonstrates Herder's continuing relevance to postcolonial studies today.

Astronomers study the oldest observable stars in the universe in much the same way that archaeologists study ancient artifacts on Earth. Here, Anna Frebel-who is credited with discovering several of the oldest and most primitive stars using the world's largest telescopes-takes readers into the far-flung depths of space and time to provide a gripping firsthand account of the cutting-edge science of stellar archaeology.Weaving the latest findings in astronomy with her own compelling insights as one of the world's leading researchers in the field, Frebel explains how sections of the night sky are "excavated" in the hunt for these extremely rare relic stars-some of which have been shining for more than 13 billion years-and how this astonishing quest is revealing tantalizing new details about the earliest times in the universe. She vividly describes how the very first stars formed soon after the big bang and then exploded as supernovae, leaving behind chemical fingerprints that were incorporated into the ancient stars we can still observe today. She shows how these fingerprints provide clues to the cosmic origin of the elements, early star and galaxy formation, and the assembly process of the Milky Way. Along the way, Frebel recounts her own stories of discovery, offering an insider's perspective on this exciting frontier of science.Lively and accessible, this book sheds vital new light on the origins and evolution of the cosmos while providing a unique look into life as an astronomer.

The first step towards changing the system is obviously to analyze and understand it. Intellectuals play a key role in this process - and social scientists in particular. Here, the authors bring the critique of capitalism back to the top of the agenda, placing it at the heart of sociology. By discussing key critical issues such as the questions of accumulation and expropriation, discipline and freedom, and the powerful new sociological concepts of activation and acceleration, they reclaim a socially committed sociology, taking the side of the potential losers of the current crisis and in more general terms placing the future well-being of society at the centre of their research.
