"The present text evolved from the lectures delivered by the author to senior undergraduates and graduate students, primarily in Civil Engineering Curriculum, during the past twenty-five years or so, at The George Washington University. During this period, many students have contributed, directly or indirectly, by raising thoughtful questions. To all of them I owe my indebtedness"--Provided by publisher.
