This thesis aims to discuss the notion of χώρα and to clarify its causal power with respect to Plato's thought. By referring to two of his dialogues, the Phaedrus and the Timaeus, I will try to shed light on this notion. However, as one may know, these two dialogues actually engage with two different χώρα. Whereas the Phaedrus refers to this notion as a certain locality, which I will translate as 'wilderness,' the Timaeus discusses it as a cosmogonic actor operative in generation. The primary aim of this paper will not only be to demonstrate how these dialogues engage with χώρα, but also to question the affinity between the two usages. In the end, I hope to show that from Plato's perspective, the 'de-structive' power of the cosmogonic χώρα finds its response here and now on Earth, in wilderness.
