Jonge Belgische architecten etaleren een vernieuwende kijk op architectuur. De oudere generatie die het in een explosieve economie moest hebben van een oneindige bewondering voor proportiestudies, detaillering en minimalisme maakt plaats voor een generatie die met beide voeten stevig op de grond staat en veeleer optreedt als pragmatisch dienstverlener. Lagere budgetten dwingen hen projecten met een frisse blik te benaderen. David Driesen en Tom Verschueren van het Mechelse bureau dmvA bekijken architectuur als deel van het alledaagse leven. Onder de noemer stijlloos maakt dmvA zich iedere mogelijke stijl eigen. Op deze manier veegt het bureau meteen elke beperking van tafel en schaart zij zich tegelijk achter het concept dat tijdloze architectuur niet bestaat. Zij treden op als scenarioschrijvers, transformeren het programma in een screenplay, ruimtes in sequenties en laten het gebouw toe telkens een ander verhaal te vertellen. Het zijn geen mathematische theoretici, maar ontwerpers met emotie, betrokkenheid, kunst en seks als drijfveer wat resulteert in een plastische, doorgedreven gedetailleerde architectuur waarin maximalisme op een minimalistische manier is bereikt.

"Visionary Danish architect Jorn Utzon was just thirty-eight years old in 1957 when he was named the surprise winner of an international competition to design the Sydney Opera House in Australia. His bold design consisting of five performance halls topped by billowing concrete shells clad in ceramic tile is universally recognized as a masterpiece of twentieth-century architecture. While this early triumph brought Utzon worldwide fame, it overshadowed a larger body of work of great importance for modern architecture. Utzon's highly diverse projects around the globe, from the National Assembly in Kuwait and Melli Bank in Tehran, Iran to the Bagsv"rd Church and numerous houses in Denmark, are testaments to his belief that modernism need not sacrifice local character to be forward thinking.
