Ce texte se présente comme un "roman historique", mais, comme l'auteur le précise dans un chapitre final, la plupart des événements et des personnages relèvent de la réalité. Imre Boc a été résistant à Grenoble, dans les rangs de l'unité "Liberté" des Francs-tireurs et partisans de la Main d'oeuvre immigrée. Dans ce livre, il évoque les semaines qui ont précédé et suivi la libération de la ville. Il le fait avec beaucoup d'émotion, mais aussi sans le moindre angélisme, sans passer sous silence les oppositions qui ont existé entre les différentes organisations de résistance, notamment à propos du Vercors. S'il évoque la joie immense de la libération, il pointe aussi les désordres et la confusion qui ont régné. Il ne cache pas non plus la déception que provoque chez les résistants la reprise en main par les forces politiques traditionnelles. Ce qui fait vraiment la valeur de ce témoignage, c'est son authenticité et son respect de la complexité des situations d'alors, tout cela sans la moindre animosité ni amertume.
