Numerous studies on Syria and Jordan are carried out by doctoral students from French (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Lyon, Aix-Marseille, Strasbourg), Syrian (Universities of Damascus, Aleppo, Latakia) and foreign (Barcelona, ​​Rome) universities, (London, Girona) within the framework of international collaborations. The dynamism of research on Southern Syria organized by the French Archaeological Mission in Southern Syria (MAFSS) and the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums of Syria (DGAMS) is reflected among other things by the number of doctoral students involved. Fieldwork, archaeological operations, architectural surveys and studies, thematic surveys, epigraphic inventories occupy a central place in these studies, allowing the production of original data which renews the issues and interpretations. These studies are carried out in close collaboration with the DGAMS and the support of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MAEE). The round table organized by the French Archaeological Mission in Southern Syria (MAFSS) in December 2011 was an opportunity to bring together these young researchers working on Southern Syria, to which several others working in other regions of Syria and Jordan. They were able to present their subjects, show the progress of their research and their results, and discuss with all the researchers working in the region. The articles report on this innovative work.

Das Bild selbst kann sich nun als Lebewesen behaupten, indem es sich in einem K rper oder Material manifestiert. In der virtuellen Kunst wird das Bild, das Simulacrum gewesen ist, zum Leben. Der Autor widmet sich in kritisch-theoretischer Perspektive der heutigen Bildpraxis und untersucht daf r Beispiele aus Kunst und Architektur.

The first book-length art historical examination of a major contemporary French artist. Over the past two decades, French artist Pierre Huyghe has produced an extraordinary body of work in constant dialogue with temporality. Investigating the possibility of a hypothetical mode of timekeeping--"parallel presents"--Huyghe has researched the architecture of the incomplete, directed a puppet opera, founded a temporary school, established a pirate television station, staged celebrations, scripted scenarios, and journeyed to Antarctica in search of a mythological penguin. In this first book-length art historical examination of Huyghe and his work, Amelia Barikin traces the artist's continual negotiation with the time codes of contemporary society. Barikin finds in Huyghe's projects an alternate way of thinking about history--a "topological historicity" that deprograms (or reprograms) temporal formats. Barikin offers pioneering analyses of Huyghe's lesser-known early works as well as sustained readings of later, critically acclaimed projects, including No Ghost Just a Shell (2000), L'Expedition scintillante (2002), and A Journey That Wasn't (2005). She emphasizes Huyghe's concepts of "freed time" and "the open present," in which anything might happen. Bringing together an eclectic array of subjects and characters--from moon walking to situationist practices, from Snow White to Gilles Deleuze--Parallel Presents offers a highly original account of the driving forces behind Huyghe's work.
