Die Getriebetechnik hat einen bedeutenden Einfluss auf Verbrauch, Fahrbarkeit, Gewicht und Kosten von Fahrzeugen. Die Relevanz dieser Eigenschaften hat in der jüngeren Vergangenheit wesentlich zugenommen, und in der Wechselwirkung mit dem gesamten Antriebsstrang bzw. dem Gesamtfahrzeug werden Getriebe zunehmend wichtiger. Mit dem Auftreten der Hybridtechnik ist noch mehr Leben in die Getriebewelt gekommen. Die Freiheitsgrade nehmen weiter zu und vielfältige Kombinationen aus Getriebe, Verbrennungsmotor und E-Motor sind machbar. Das Getriebebuch hat zum Ziel, das System- und Methodenwissen zur Getriebetechnologie darzustellen sowie Funktionen und Wechselwirkungen kennen zu lernen. Abstrahierend werden die zahlreichen Komponenten und Sub-Systeme eingeführt, so dass eine zeitlose Kompetenz vermittelt wird. Mit dem Wissen dieses Buches können auch neue Getriebekonzepte bewertet und entwickelt werden.

Kein anderer Industriezweig steht mehr für neue Technologien, schlanke Produktion, Globalisierung und moderne Arbeitsorganisation als die deutsche Automobilindustrie. Diese kann in ihrer Bedeutung für den Standort Deutschland kaum überschätzt werden, zumal sie in der Entwicklung, Produktion und im Vertrieb eine große Dynamik aufweist. Davon ausgehend wird das Anliegen verfolgt, ausgewählte Trends der Automobilindustrie am Beispiel der Volkswagen AG darzustellen. Dabei finden Marktveränderungen wie zum Beispiel die demografische Entwicklung und der Wertewandel, die flexible Fabrik aus Sicht der Steuer- und Fördertechnik und die moderne Fertigung in der Leichtmetall-Gießerei besondere Beachtung. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt sind Informationstechnologien, Informationssysteme und Fahrerassistenzsysteme, die als soziotechnische Systeme betrachtet werden. Ferner werden neue Aufgaben und Handlungsfelder der Betriebsratsarbeit vorgestellt.

The first Workshop on Mechanisms, Transmissions and Applications -- MeTrApp-2011 was organized by the Mechatronics Department at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty, “Politehnica” University of Timisoara, Romania, under the patronage of the IFToMM Technical Committees Linkages and Mechanical Controls and Micromachines. The workshop brought together researchers and students who work in disciplines associated with mechanisms science and offered a great opportunity for scientists from all over the world to present their achievements, exchange innovative ideas and create solid international links, setting the trend for future developments in this important and creative field. The topics treated in this volume are mechanisms and machine design, mechanical transmissions, mechatronic and biomechanic applications, computational and experimental methods, history of mechanism and machine science and teaching methods.
