Generalized dermatitis is often chronic and debilitating. Many cases are multifactorial, which makes diagnosis and targeted treatment difficult. Although a very common reason for presentation to both dermatologists and primary care physicians, many practitioners fail to control symptoms adequately. Generalized Dermatitis in Clinical Practice summarizes the diagnostic and management options of this complex, multifactorial, and often chronic disease. Distilling a wealth of clinical insight, the author reviews the pathophysiology and differential diagnosis in the context of patient management. This concise clinical reference is an ideal way for dermatologists, allergists, and primary care physicians to approach the patient suffering from widespread dermatitis.

Until a cure exists, Dupuytren’s disease and related disorders such as Ledderhose’s disease will pose lifelong threats of functional impairment for affected individuals. A better understanding of the onset of disease, early detection and functional preservation are of the utmost importance to minimize the impact of these conditions. This book is based on presentations and discussions at the 2010 International Symposium on Dupuytren's disease held in Miami, Florida, but it also includes new data and additional chapters. It is hoped that it will raise awareness of this underestimated condition and promote cooperative efforts to work towards a cure. Up to date information is provided on the epidemiology, biology, and pathology of the disease. The principles and specifics of treatment are explored in detail. The indications for and techniques of radiotherapy, minimally invasive treatments and open surgery are fully explained. In addition, the role of physical therapy is considered as well as the care of relapse and complications. Treatment of Ledderhose’s disease and Peyronie's disease is also discussed. This book provides invaluable information for hand surgeons, podiatrists, orthopedists, plastic surgeons, radiation therapy specialists and general practitioners. It will help to foster an interdisciplinary approach to the understanding and management of this debilitating disorder and related conditions.

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Proteus explores the idea that Rheumatoid arthritis is caused by a urinary tract infection as a result of Proteus bacteria. Rheumatoid arthritis is a severe, painful and crippling disease affecting millions of people throughout the world, especially women. Genetic studies over the last 30 years have shown that individuals who possess the white cell blood groups HLA-DR1/4 carry a susceptibility sequence and are more likely to develop the disease. This book uses the methods of Sir Karl Popper, the philosopher of science, to present 12 “Popper sequences” which have been identified to indicate that Proteus is the causative agent of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Rheumatoid Arthritis and Proteus proposes that Anti-Proteus therapies should be followed as early as possible to prevent the crippling and irreversible joint deformities that occur in Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Perioperative care of the patient with a multisystem inflammatory (rheumatic) disease has become increasingly complex and perioperative medicine has evolved into its own subspecialty. Physicians who have expertise in managing patients with rheumatic disease infrequently spend significant time also managing patients undergoing surgical procedures, and the reverse is equally true. Despite the burgeoning literature on the medical management of the surgical patient, scant data have been generated regarding patients with complex rheumatic disease. Perioperative Management of Patients with Rheumatic Disease fills a conspicuous gap in the literature and aims at providing a paved path for rheumatologists--who infrequently manage surgical problems--and medical consultants--who only seldom encounter patients with rheumatic diseases--to tread as they care for patients in the perioperative period. The book addresses discrete management issues from the perspective of the medical subspecialist and also offers concise descriptions of surgical procedures. Written from the surgical perspective for the internist, the surgical procedure chapters include a brief description of relative contraindications, time to recovery, rehabilitation suggestions, and comments regarding common and severe procedure specific postoperative complications.

Paul Gerson Unna’s “Abtropfung” theory that nevi develop through migration of nevus cells from the epidermis to the dermis prevailed for almost a century until the “Hochsteigerung” theory postulated the reverse pattern of migration based on newly acquired observations from histopathology and studies of embryogenesis. Most recently, however, new insights gained from epidemiology, cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of nevi, dermoscopy and confocal microscopy, and cellular and molecular studies have brought into question both of the aforementioned theories. This book provides a comprehensive guide to current knowledge about nevogenesis by presenting these latest advances and in addition discusses issues yet to be resolved. It will assist practicing physicians in effectively managing patients with a variety of nevi and will also be of great value to researchers in the field. Importantly, since nevi are associated with an increased risk of melanoma, understanding nevogenesis may help to unravel some of the mysteries of melanomagenesis.
