Abstract

Young, eager and ambitious, architect John van de Water set off in 2004 to a China that was modernizing at a furious pace. His intention was to take the conceptual thinking of NEXT architects, highly rated as this is in Europe, and put it into practice. Five turbulent years ensued, with upward of a million square metres of projects being built on Chinese soil. This meant constantly placing the borders of Western architecture|s frame of reference in the light of the Chinese context. A whole range of emotions sprang up in the space between Western and Chinese architectural thinking: incomprehension, confrontation, misunderstanding, acceptance, awareness, understanding and, eventually, advantage.

Abstract

How does the architectural design become reality? After a successful presentation come the phase of tenders and that of their realization. Design must now be reformulated into working drawings. That 's exactly what Liebing, a renowned expert for plan views and detailed views, calls the other architecture . Working drawings constitute the basis for the real construction itself. In the firms, mostly young architects are charged with these tasks. But during education, this topic is often addressed insufficiently. The correct transformation of a presentation design into working drawings for a bid

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Identifying and critically discussing the key terms, techniques, methodologies and habits that comprise our understanding of fieldwork in architectural education, research and practice, this book collates contributions by established and emerging international scholars. It will be of interest to critical practitioners, researchers, scholars and students of architecture. A selection of critical historiographies, theoretical strategies and reflective design practices challenge us to think seriously about our knowledge, experience and application of fieldwork in architecture.

Abstract

"Building Information Modeling (BIM) software combines 3-D elements and information in all aspects of the design of a building. While many books are published on BIM related to technology and computer programs, this one focuses on the practice-related information needs of architects, showing them how BIM and integrated practice can transform their practices. It features: Methods for addressing the obstacles and challenges to implementing BIM How to implement it in an efficient and effective manner How to use BIM as a tool to transform the role of architects "-- 'Ready or not, it's high time to make BIM a part of your practice, or at least your vocabulary, and this book has as much to offer beginners as it does seasoned users of building information modeling software.'—Chicago Architect The first book devoted to the subject of how BIM affects individuals and organizations working within the ever-changing construction industry, BIM and Integrated Design discusses the implementation of building information modeling software as a cultural process with a focus on the technology's impact and transformative effect—both potentially disruptive and liberating—on the social, psychological, and practical aspects of the workplace. BIM and Integrated Design answers the questions that BIM poses to the firm that adopts it. Through thorough research and a series of case study interviews with industry leaders—and leaders in the making out from behind the monitor—BIM and Integrated Design helps you learn: Effective learning strategies for fully understanding BIM software and its use Key points about integrated design to help you promote the process to owners and your team How BIM changes not only the technology, process, and delivery but also the leadership playing field How to become a more effective leader no matter where you find yourself in the organization or on the project team How the introduction of BIM into the workforce has significant education, recruitment, and training implications Covering all of the human issues brought about or exacerbated by the advent of BIM into the architecture workplace, profession, and industry, BIM and Integrated Design shows how to overcome real and perceived barriers to its use.
