This book introduces the reader to the field of nuclear astrophysics, i.e. the acquisition and reading of measurements on unstable isotopes in different parts of the universe. The authors explain the role of radioactivities in astrophysics, discuss specific sources of cosmic isotopes and in which special regions they can be observed. More specifically, the authors address stars of different types, stellar explosions which terminate stellar evolutions, and other explosions triggered by mass transfers and instabilities in binary stars. They also address nuclear reactions and transport processes in interstellar space, in the contexts of cosmic rays and of chemical evolution. A special chapter is dedicated to the solar system which even provides material samples. The book also contains a description of key tools which astrophysicists employ in those particular studies and a glossary of key terms in astronomy with radioactivities.

La terza parte e’ dedicata alle galassie, morfologia, formazione ed evoluzione, per giungere allo studio della distribuzione sulle grandi scale. La sezione di cosmologia presenta i modelli cosmologici relativistici, con la discussione del big-bang, inflazione, materia oscura, energia oscura. Il testo rappresenta la raccolta delle lezioni tenute dall’autore per i corsi introduttivi di astrofisica delle lauree specialistiche in Fisica e Astrofisica nei passati 30 anni, ma include elementi avanzati utili per corsi introduttivi di astrofisica nel dottorato in Fisica. Il testo e' anche stato utilizzato in forma preliminare da colleghi di altre sedi.

With increasingly complex and costly opto-mechanical systems, there is a growing need for reliable computer modeling and simulation. The field of integrated modeling, combining optics, mechanics, control engineering, and other disciplines, is the subject of this book. Although the book primarily focuses on ground-based optical telescopes, the techniques introduced are applicable also to other wavelengths and to other opto-mechanical applications on the ground or in space. Basic tools of integrated modeling are introduced together with concepts of ground-based telescopes. Modeling of optical systems, structures, wavefront control systems with emphasis on segmented mirror control, and active and adaptive optics are described together with a variety of noise sources; many examples are included in this book. Integrated Modeling of Telescopes is a text for physicists and engineers working in the field of opto-mechanical design and wavefront control, but it will also be valuable as a textbook for PhD students.
