Equinet, with the support and contribution of its Working Group 'Policy Formation' prepared the opinion 'Addressing Poverty and Discrimination: Two Sides of the One Coin'. This publication released in the context of the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion draws on the experience and work of the equality bodies to: 1/ Deepen the understanding of the link between poverty and discrimination - 2/ Encourage and support a policy focus on the link between poverty and discrimination - 3/ Further develop a practice focus on the link between poverty and discrimination in the work of equality bodies.Based on a survey completed by Equinet members with a mandate that includes the ground of socio-economic status, the opinion demonstrates how poverty and discrimination are closely linked types of discrimination. Recommendations drawn from the survey propose initiatives to enable equality bodies and other players in the field of non-discrimination and equality to respond effectively to the challenge posed by the discrimination/poverty link

Implementing the goals of the Bologna declaration means a completely new organization of study programmes, working conditions and the production of knowledge aiming at the harmonization of the European Scientific Area. The new entrepreneurial university is making efforts to increase economic efficiency, transparency and to offer new forms of services in academic teaching and research. More or less vehement debates deal with the question if and to which extent this process will change the original character of academic education and science. Gender research however, is especially interested in the influence of the restructuring process on gender relations. In which way do rationalization and reorganization of the universities and of the universities of applied sciences de/engender academic teaching and research? Where is gender research positioned now? Researchers from European and non European countries will respond to these problems/questions which seem to be unsolved so far.

In 1994 schreef Humo dat de buurt rond het Krugerpark de 'Bronx' van Borgerhout was. Al wie het ontkende, kreeg te horen: 'Als het er zo goed is, ga er dan wonen!' De auteur deed het, trok naar die zogenaamd grimmige, multiculturele buurt, maar ontdekte een veel minder sombere wereld. Zijn dagboek blikt terug op meer dan 15 jaar wonen in een boeiend stukje van Oud-Borgerhout. Zijn persoonlijke belevenissen wisselen af met algemenere beschouwingen en commentaren van oude en nieuwe bewoners en van professionele betrokkenen. Het verhaal van het Krugerpark is een voorbeeld van de zoektocht naar een duurzaamheidsdriehoek waarin bevlogen politici, bestuursentiteiten met alerte ambtenaren en wakkere burgers elkaar kunnen vinden. Dit boek kan een nuttig instrument zijn om de discussie rond wijkontwikkeling op een meer concrete manier te voeren
