Using both qualitative and quantitative data and methodologies, Restorative Justice for Domestic Violence Victims illuminates the complex nature of intimate partner violence and of its victims' lives. In the process, Marilyn Fernandez makes a convincing case for introducing restorative justice principled programs in the domestic violence arena and pushes the boundaries of existing theoretical and service models for domestic violence.

Resko examines the relationship between women's economic wellbeing and intimate partner violence. Using data from the Fragile Families Survey, she examines hypotheses shaped by stress theory and social exchange theory and investigates racial and ethnic differences in these models. Her results support the notion that improving women's economic position can reduce intimate partner violence. Little evidence supported the backlash hypothesis, but in some situations men's poor performance in the labor force may be associated with an increased abuse. The strength of these results, however, differs a

This book draws on interviews carried out over a period of eight years, as well as novels, films, and domestic violence literature, to explain the role of storytelling in the history of the battered women's movement. The author shows how cultural contexts shape how stories about domestic abuse get told, and offers critical tools for bringing psychology into discussions of group dynamics in the domestic violence field. The book enlists psychoanalytic-feminist theory to analyse storytelling practices and to re-visit four areas of tension in the movement where signs of battle fat

"Domestic Violence and International Law argues that certain forms of domestic violence are a violation of international human rights law. The argument is based on the international law principle that, where a state fails to protect a vulnerable group of people from harm, whether perpetrated by the state or private actors, it has breached its obligations to protect against human rights violation. This book provides a comprehensive legal analysis for why a state should be accountable in international law for allowing women to suffer extreme forms of domestic violence and how this can help individual victims. It is irrelevant that the violence is perpetrated by individuals and not state actors such as soldiers or the police. The state's breach of its responsibility is in its failure to act effectively in domestic violence cases; and in its silent endorsement of the violence, it becomes complicit. The book seeks to reformulate academic and political debate on domestic violence and the responsibility of states under international law. It is based on empirical data combined with an honest assessment of whether or not domestic violence is recognised by the international community as a human rights violation."--Bloomsbury Publishing.
