Between 1966 and 1973, the British Institute of Persian Studies conducted seven seasons of excavation and survey at Siraf, which was a major city on the Iranian shore of the Persian Gulf that played a leading role in the network of maritime trade that supplied Western Asia with the products of India, the Far East and Eastern Africa between A.D. 800 and 1050. This volume synthesises the written evidence of the history of Siraf, and outlines what we know about the character of the city, the ways in which its inhabitants exploited the hinterland and its role in the maritime trade of the Indian Ocean. This volume introduces the excavations carried out at the site and the range of finds that were recovered (Chapter 1), the written evidence that relates to Siraf (Chapter 2), the cities' urban topography (Chapter 3), its hinterland (Chapter 4), the nature of settlement in the neighbouring high valleys (Chapter 5) and Siraf's place in the wider historical and geographical contexts (Chapter 6). The volume also includes digital versions of the original maps of the site produced in the 1970s. This is the first volume in a new series that has been established by the British Institute of Persian Studies (BIPS) in conjunction with Oxbow Books, which will publish archaeological research in Iran that has been sponsored by BIPS.

"The Collection of the Rubin Museum of Art is extraordinarily rich in paintings created in the style known as Karma Gardri, or Encampment Style. The noted scholar David P. Jackson examines these paintings and related works from collections around the world to identify the subjects and date the works and, in many cases, to name the painter or patron responsible for the works. Most notable among patrons and painters of this style is Situ Panchen, who lived in the 18th century in Kham Province of eastern Tibet. Highly educated and widely traveled, Situ was accomplished in numerous areas of endeavor. He was a revered holy man, talented painter, linguist, diplomat, and he was learned in the field of medicine. AS he traveled between eastern Tibet and China, he kept diaries, which have helped Jackson and fellow scholar Karl Debreczeny reveal the life and times of Situ and illuminate his singular contribution to the artistic traditions of Tibetan painting."--Jacket.

C. S. Lewis was concerned about an aspect of the problem of evil he called subjectivism: the tendency of one's perspective to move towards self-referentialism and utilitarianism. In C. S. Lewis and a Problem of Evil, Jerry Root provides a holistic reading of Lewis by walking the reader through all of Lewis's published work as he argues Lewis's case against subjectivism. Furthermore, the book reveals that Lewis consistently employed fiction to make his case, as virtually all of his villains are portrayed as subjectivists. Lewis's warnings are prophetic; this book is not merely an exposition of Lewis, it is also a timely investigation into the problem of evil.
