Prepared by the Task Committee of the Waterways and Navigation Engineering Committee of the Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute of ASCE. Navigation Engineering Practice and Ethical Standards presents engineering criteria and practices for the design, operation, and management of navigation projects; it also shows how these criteria and practices are integrated with engineering ethics. This manual is meant to be used as a reference to demonstrate the ethical beginnings of navigation engineering criteria. Main topics include an introduction to navigation engineering; engineering ethics; design philosophy and goals; design conditions and assumptions; project features criteria; the design process; sustainable development; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers management of waterways; U.S. Coast Guard contributions to waterways; NOAA contributions to waterways; tools to ensure design safety and operation; and final conclusions.
