Abstract

On appelle « novellisation » le genre qui adapte un film original sous forme romanesque. Ce genre, confondu souvent avec le scénario et limité à tort à certains produits dérivés des grandes machines hollywoodiennes, est en fait aussi ancien que le cinéma lui-même, et la France a joué un rôle clé dans son développement. L'ambition de ce livre est non seulement de décrire les transformations de ce genre, qui permet de jeter une nouvelle lumière sur les rapports entre cinéma et société, mais aussi et surtout de relire un certain nombre de classiques français, du Jeanne d'Arc de Dreyer aux Vacances de Monsieur Hulot de Tati, de J'irai cracher sur vos tombes à La Vie de Jésus de Bruno Dumont par exemple. Ce livre, abondamment illustré, révèle ainsi la diversité fascinante des échanges entre cinéma et littérature.

Abstract

Adaptation is an international, peer-reviewed journal, offering academic articles, film and book reviews, including both book to screen adaptation, screen to book adaptation, popular and `classic' adaptations, theatre and novel screen adaptations, television, animation, soundtracks, production issues and genres in literature on screen. Adaptation provides an international forum to theorise and interrogate the phenomenon of literature on screen from both a literary and film studies perspective.
