Abstract

"Describes the early inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego. From Their first contact with white men, they have been object of numerous studies aimed at specialist, which are almost impossible to get hold of today. In this book, the reader will find something different. It has, on the one hand, been writtent in a non-specialist language, accessible to anyone interested in the subject. On the other hand, unlike previous avaliable works, it deals both with the indigenous people of the north -the Ona or Selk'nam- and those of the south -the Yahgan or Yamana- touching also on the Haush and the Alacaluf. In each case, a chapter describes their way of life and customs, and another recounts their history, inasmuch as it is possible to recreate it. It will be and exciting reading that will help us to know those that are no oner with us."
