This book explores the fundamental concepts, basic theory, and key principles of 802.11 networks with roaming capabilities. Today, we increasingly expect to find public Wide Local Area Network (WLAN) 802.11 access in our airports, public spaces, and hotels, and we want to maintain our connections when we're mobile and using 802.11 WLANs. However, 802.11 was not originally designed with roaming capabilities and can't, in its "pure? form, support seamless roaming between different hotspots and other 802.11 access points. This book details the theory behind various 802.11 extensions

NTMS’2007 is the first IFIP International Conference on New Technologies, Mobility and Security that was held from May 2 to May 4, 2007 in Paris, France. NTMS'2007 aims at fostering advances in the areas of New Technologies, Wireless Networks, Mobile Computing, Ad hoc and Ambient Networks, QoS, Network Security and E-commerce, to mention a few, and provides a dynamic forum for researchers, students and professionals to present their state-of-the-art research and development in these interesting areas. The event was combined with tutorial sessions and workshops. Tutorials preceded the main program, aiming at the dissemination of mature knowledge and technology advances in the field. One Workshop immediately followed the main conference, offering the opportunity for a more focused exchange of ideas and presentation of on-going research relevant to selected topics.

Wireless Communications: 2007 CNIT Thyrrhenian Symposium compiles the papers presented at the 2007 Thyrrenian International Workshop on Digital Communication held in Italy in September of 2007. The papers represent the new aspects of wireless communication systems that approach the challenge of moving towards multimedia communications and IP technology. The various aspects covered are: Creating a secure wireless network for IP Ensuring Quality of Service (QoS) for the heterogeneous wireless networks Collecting data for several applications with one network The book is organized into five sessions that cover different topics. The five sessions are "4G Wireless Systems", "Ad-Hoc and Cellular Networks", "Security and Applications in Wireless Networks", "QoS and Efficiency in Multimedia Heterogeneous Wireless Networks", and "Wireless Sensor Networks". Wireless Communications: 2007 CNIT Thyrrhenian Symposium is an up-to-date critical analysis of the state-of-the-art in each of the five areas above and is a reference for future development.
