Cet ouvrage est issu des actes du cinquième séminaire d'experts franco-québécois de l'Institut international de recherche en éthique biomédicale (IIREB) qui s'est tenu à Montréal en février 2006. La protection de la vie privée, la confidentialité des données médicales, des banques de données génomiques et la sécurité de l'information lors des transferts, fusions, etc. furent au cœur des préoccupations des conférenciers. Comment atteindre un équilibre pratique entre, d'une part, le droit à la vie privée et à la confidentialité des renseignements personnels et, d'autre part, le besoin des chercheurs et des praticiens de santé d'avoir un accès raisonnable à de telles données pour améliorer l'état de santé de la population, les services de soins de santé et maintenir un système de soins de santé durable ?
