This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on Task Models and Diagrams for User Interface Design, TAMODIA 2007, held in Toulouse, France, in November 2007.The 16 revised full and 7 revised short papers presented together with 1 keynote paper and 2 industrial papers were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions for inclusion in the book. The workshop features current research and gives some indication of the new directions in which task analysis theories, methods, techniques and tools are progressing. The papers are organized in topical sections on extending task models, model-driven engineering, task-based evaluation and testing, task patterns, workflow based systems.

Since its establishment in 1995, the ERCIM Working Group “User Interfaces for 1 All” (WG UI4ALL) has systematically promoted the proactive realization of the design for all principles in HCI. Its activities have included the organization of a se- 2 ries of very successful workshops that have contributed to consolidate recent work and stimulate further discussion on the state of the art in user interfaces for all and its increasing range of applications in the upcoming Information Society. Such workshops have brought together, in a new scientific community, researchers and teams working not only in the different ERCIM organizations, but also in organizations beyond ERCIM and the European boundaries, who share common interests and as- rations and contribute to the endeavors towards making the Information Society equally accessible to all citizens. This volume contains the proceedings of the last ERCIM “User Interfaces for All” Workshop. The work of the ERCIM WG UI4ALL led in 2001 to the establishment of the international Conference on Universal Access in Human–Computer Interaction 3 (UAHCI) , which takes place in the context of the HCI International Conference se- 4 ries . UAHCI has established an international forum for the dissemination and - change of scientific information on theoretical, methodological and empirical research that addresses all issues related to the attainment of universal access in the development of interactive software, attracting participants from a broad range of disciplines and fields of expertise.

As the variety and complexity of interactive systems increase, understanding how a system can dynamically capture relevant user needs and traits, and - tomatically adapting its interaction to this information, has become critical for devising e?ective advanced services and interfaces. The International User M- eling Conference represents the central forum for presenting the advances in the research and development of personalized, user-adaptive systems. Bi-annual scienti?c meetings of the user modeling community started in 1986 as a small invitational workshop held in Maria Laach, Germany, with 24 participants. The workshops continued with an open format, and grew into an international c- ference with 74 submissions in 1994. While maintaining its feel as a highly - gaged and intimate community, the conference has continued to grow, reaching the record number of 169 submissions (153 full papers and 16 posters) in this current edition, held in Corfu, Greece. With an acceptance rate of 19. 6% for long papers and 38% for posters, - lected by a team of reviewers who proved to be exceptionally thorough and thoughtful in their reviewers, this year’s program followed the high standards set by the previous editions, and presented an exciting range of interdisciplinary work covering topics such as cognitive modeling, modeling of user a?ect and meta-cognition,empirical evaluations of noveltechniques, user modeling for - bilecomputingandrecommendersystems, useradaptivityandusability.

We are proud to present the TAMODIA 2006 proceedings. In 2006, the TA- MODIA workshop celebrated its ?fth anniversary. TAMODIA is an obscure acronym that stands for TAsk MOdels and DIAgrams for user interface - sign. The ?rst edition of TAMODIA was organized in Bucharest (Romania) by Costin Pribeanu and Jean Vanderdonckt. The fact that ?ve years later the TAMODIAseriesofworkshopsstillcontinuessuccessfullyprovestheimportance of this research area for the human–computer interaction community! The ?rst workshopaimed at examining how multiple forms of task expressionscan sign- icantly increase or decrease the quality of user interface design. This is still the scope of the current edition; we tried to assemble papers that discuss how the complexity of HCI design and development can be managed with tasks, models and diagrams. Much like the previous editions, the selection of papers from the 2006 edition re?ects the broad scope of this ?eld, which cannot be labeled with a single title or term. The invited paper is by Jo¨ elle Coutaz and discusses meta-user interfaces for ambient spaces. Finding appropriate ways to design and develop user interfaces for interactive spaces is becoming an important challenge for the creation of future usable applications. This exciting work gives a good feel of the new type of user interfaces and the required new approaches we are evolving toward when we want to realize the vision of ambient intelligent environments and create systems that can be used and controlled by the end-users.

This volume in the Lecture Notes of Artificial Intelligence represents the first book on human computing. We introduced the notion of human computing in 2006 and organized two events that were meant to explain this notion and the research conducted worldwide in the context of this notion. The first of these events was a Special Session on Human Computing that took place during the Eighth International ACM Conference on Multimodal Interfaces (ICMI 2006), held in Banff, Canada, on November 3, 2006. The theme of the conference was multimodal collaboration and our Special Session on Human Computing was a natural extension of the discussion on this theme. We are grateful to the organizers of ICMI 2006 for supporting our efforts to organize this Special Session during the conference. The second event in question was a Workshop on AI for Human Computing organized in conjunction with the 20th International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI 2007), held in Hyderabad (India), on January 6, 2007. The main theme of IJCAI 2007 was AI and its benefits to society. Our workshop presented a vision of the future of computing technology in which AI, in particular machine learning and agent technology, plays an essential role. We want to thank the organizers of IJCAI 2007 for their support in the organization of the Workshop on AI for Human Computing.
