Art history, literary history, film history, social history, micro-history, economic history, women’s history, postcolonial history and other hyphenated histories have introduced elements of discontinuity, rupture and plurality into hegemonic historical narratives by initiating interdisciplinary encounters that have not only redefined and rewritten debates over the terrain of the past, but have shared a common problematic with, and thus have left indelible traces in, the global syntax of theory itself. Rather than focusing on 'Grand Theory', we have explored some of these issues in our own areas. The first section of the volume is more general and tries to make sense of current institutional realities; the second section consists of case studies, demonstrating how the various disciplinary divisions of Slavic Studies can be overcome by adding together various hyphenated approaches: history and cultural studies, anthropology and oral history, film studies and photography. Contributors include: Wladimir Fischer, Natalka Khanenko Friesen, Andrew Colin Gow, Susan Ingram, Markus Reisenleitner, Elena Siemens, Serhy Yekelchyk, Andriy Zayarnyuk, and Marko Živković.

The theory of Memory Evolutive Systems represents a mathematical model for natural open self-organizing systems, such as biological, sociological or neural systems. In these systems, the dynamics are modulated by the cooperative and/or competitive interactions between the global system and a net of internal Centers of Regulation (CR) wich a differential access to a central heirarchical Memory. The MES proposes a mathematical model for autonomous evolutionary systems and is based on the Category Theory of mathematics. It provides a framework to study and possibly simulate the structre

In 1908 an atmospheric explosion in northern Siberia released energy equivalent to 15 Mton of TNT. Can a comparable or larger NEO affect us again? When the next NEO strikes Earth will it be large enough to destroy a city? Will the climate change significantly? Can archaeology and anthropology provide insights into the expected cultural responses with NEO interactions? Does society have a true grasp of the actual risks involved? Is the Great Depression a good model for the economic collapse that could follow a NEO catastrophe? This volume provides a necessary link between various disciplines and comet/asteroid impacts.
