Many important advances in designing high-performance structures have occurred over the last several years. Structural engineers need an authoritative source of information that thoroughly and concisely covers the foundational principles of the field. Comprising chapters selected from the second edition of the best-selling Handbook of Structural Engineering, this book provides a tightly focused, economical guide to the theoretical, practical, and computational aspects of structural design. Expert contributors discuss a wide variety of structures, including steel, aluminum, timber, and prestressed concrete, as well as reliability-based design and structures based on wind engineering.

Prepared by the Reliability-Based Design Committee of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE. Reliability-Based Design of Utility Pole Structures provides state-of the-art technical information on the design of utility pole structures. Among other useful features, this manual demonstrates how poles differing in material can be designed to equivalent reliability levels, provides means for quantifying adjusting reliability, offers design incentives for more reliable poles, and facilitates innovation and introduction of new material. With its technically innovative subject matter and detailed design examples, this manual will benefit pole manufacturers as well as electrical, structural, and transmission and distribution engineers.

Three Standards are combined in a single volume to provide guidance for the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of urban stormwater systems. ASCE/EWRI 45-05 provides guidelines for the design of urban stormwater systems, covering topics such as site analysis, system configuration, hydrology, hydraulic design, nonstructural considerations, structural design, and materials. ASCE/EWRI 46-05 presents guidelines for the installation of urban stormwater systems and discusses subjects such as contract documents, preconstruction site inspection, construction, and inspection. ASCE/EWRI 47-05 provides guidelines for the operation and maintenance of urban stormwater systems, including operation and maintenance plans, water quality, periodic inspection, and maintenance. These Standards are intended to complement design procedures in ASCE Manual 77, Design and Construction of Urban Stormwater Management Systems.

Prepared by the Committee on Cold-Formed Steel and the Committee on Metal of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE. This report documents the current practices related to bracing cold-formed steel structure elements and systems. Heavy on applications and examples, this book contains design examples illustrating bracing design for various types of cold-formed steel structures, as well as an extensive list of primary reference sources. Topics include: introduction to bracing design; cold-formed framing; cold-formed steel in metal building systems; and miscellaneous cold-formed steel elements and systems. This report is presented as a design guide and will assist the practicing engineer in designing cold-formed steel structures with greater levels of reliability, safety, and economy.
