Der englische Gelehrte Michael Maittaire (1668-1747) war von 1695-99 Lehrer an der Westminster School in London. In dieser Zeit verfasste er drei lateinische Tragödien ("Der Untergang Trojas", "Dido" und "Die Reise in die Unterwelt"), vermutlich zum Zweck der Aufführung durch seine Schüler. Das von Maittaire selbst geschriebene, vielfach Spuren der Bearbeitung tragende 'Regieexemplar', mit dem in der Hand er vermutlich die Proben leitete, hat sich im Nachlass Maittaires erhalten und gelangte nach dem Tod des Autors in den Besitz der Oxforder Bodleian Library, wo es mehr als 250 Jahre unentdeckt ruhte. Erst kürzlich gelang es einer Bochumer Forschergruppe unter Leitung von Reinhold F. Glei, das Manuskript in Oxford ausfindig und so ein bisher unbekanntes Jugendwerk Maittaires wieder zugänglich zu machen. Die vorliegende Ausgabe umfasst eine ausführliche Einleitung, eine textkritische Edition der drei Tragödien inklusive einer deutschen Übersetzung sowie einen Anhang, der die bisher bekannten Bühnenbearbeitungen der Aeneis auflistet und bespricht. Dadurch ist es möglich, die drei Tragödien Maittaires in die Geschichte der Aeneis-Dramatisierungen einzuordnen und zu beurteilen.

New Music, New Allies documents how American experimental music and its practitioners came to prominence in the West German cultural landscape between the end of the Second World War in 1945 and the reunification of East and West Germany in 1990. Beginning with the reeducation programs implemented by American military officers during the postwar occupation of West Germany and continuing through the cultural policies of the Cold War era, this broad history chronicles German views on American music, American composers' pursuit of professional opportunities abroad, and the unprecedented dissemination and support their music enjoyed through West German state-subsidized radio stations, new music festivals, and international exchange programs.
