Dit boek gaat over het dagelijkse leven met drie kinderen, waarvan er twee lijden aan het fragiele-x-syndroom (FXS). Dat wordt gekenmerkt door een trage motorische en verstandelijke ontwikkeling, emotionele uitbarstingen, sterke stemmingswisselingen, hyperactiviteit, impulsiviteit, dwangmatigheid en gedrag verwant aan autisme. Uitgangspunt van het boek is de vaststelling dat er over FXS weinig bekend is. De auteur benadrukt dat een diagnose nochtans belangrijk is. In haar boek verwoordt ze de problemen waartegen ze dagelijks moet opboksen. Maar ze vertelt ook over de mooie dingen, haar prettige en grappige herinneringen.
