Wavelet theory has been employed in numerous fields and applications. Active media technology is concerned with the development of autonomous computational or physical entities capable of perceiving, reasoning, learning, and delegating in a dynamic environment. This book covers the developments in wavelet analysis and active media technology.

An in-depth look at real analysis and its applications, including an introduction to waveletanalysis, a popular topic in ""applied real analysis"". This text makes a very natural connection between the classic pure analysis and the applied topics, including measure theory, Lebesgue Integral, harmonic analysis and wavelet theory with many associated applications.*The text is relatively elementary at the start, but the level of difficulty steadily increases*The book contains many clear, detailed examples, case studies and exercises*Many real world applications relating to

This volume contains a systematic discussion of wavelet-type inversion formulae based on group representations, and their close connection to the Plancherel formula for locally compact groups. The connection is demonstrated by the discussion of a toy example, and then employed for two purposes: Mathematically, it serves as a powerful tool, yielding existence results and criteria for inversion formulae which generalize many of the known results. Moreover, the connection provides the starting point for a – reasonably self-contained – exposition of Plancherel theory. Therefore, the book can also be read as a problem-driven introduction to the Plancherel formula.

Wavelets are mathematical functions that divide data into different frequency components, and then study each component with a resolution matched to its scale. First generation wavelets have proved useful in many applications in engineering and computer science. However they cannot be used with non-linear, data-adaptive decompositions and non-equispaced data Second Generation Wavelets and Applications introduces "second generation wavelets" and the lifting transform that can be used to apply the traditional benefits of wavelets into a wide range of new areas in signal processing, data processing and computer graphics. This book details the mathematical fundamentals of the lifting transform and illustrates the latest applications of the transform in signal and image processing, numerical analysis, scattering data smoothing and rendering of computer images.

As the applications of wavelet transform have spread to diverse areas of signal analysis and compression, students and practitioners need a practical introduction and overview. This textbook provides that concise and practical introduction to the underlying foundations and important applications. Through numerous examples and case studies from industry, it demonstrates both the potential and the limits of wavelet techniques, expanding the usual treatment beyond the discrete wavelet transform to the continuous transform. Providing the basics of Fourier transforms and digital filters in the appendix, the text is supplemented with end-of-chapter exercises, MATLAB code, and a short introduction to the MATLAB wavelet toolbox. Students of electrical engineering and engineers in industry can benefit from the concentration on real applications. .
