ESSENTIAL NMR is a set of lecture notes for scientists and engineers who want to brush up on their knowledge of NMR. This book is also a compendium for graduate and postgraduate students of physics and chemistry as well as for their teachers, covering all fields of NMR, i.e. NMR methodology and hardware, chemical analysis, 2D-spectroscopy, NMR imaging, flow NMR, and quality control NMR. The material, selected and organized for a one-semester course, is presented with pairs of pages addressing particular topics. One page of each pair provides a text containing the key information, the other page shows a color illustration. This is the most comprehensive textbook on NMR to date. The book is intended for beginning graduate students and doctoral students of Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Material Science.

From 'AB systems' to 'Zipper artefact' - even for the experienced practitioner in MRI, the plethora of technical terms and acronyms can be daunting and bewildering. This concise but comprehensive guide provides an effective and practical introduction to the full range of this terminology. It will be an invaluable source of reference for all students, trainees and medical professionals working with MRI. More than 800 terms commonly encountered in MR Imaging and Spectroscopy are clearly defined, explained and cross-referenced. Illustrations are used to enhance and explain many of the definitions, and references to further reading will point the reader to more in-depth coverage. As well as being a compendium of terms from A to Z, the volume concludes with a useful collection of appendices, which tabulate many of the key constants, properties and equations of relevance.

Volume II/26 supplements the previous compilations II/l, II/9 and II/17 of the magnetic properties of free radicals. Due to the still rapid growth of the field and the necessary inclusion of new subjects the volume is divided into subvolumes which will appear in fast succession. Together with the earlier publications volume II/26 offers an up-to-date and comprehensive survey and collection of structures and data on the important chemical intermediates, namely radicals, polyradicals and related species such as carbenes. As before the species have been grouped according to chemical aspects. For each group of substances the literature has been compiled and extracted by experts in the fields. For the reader's convenience an index of substances follows in the last subvolume.

The physiological magnetic resonance techniques of diffusion imaging, perfusion imaging and spectroscopy offer insights into brain structure, function and metabolism. Until recently, they were mainly applied within the realm of medical research, but with their increasing availability on clinical MRI machines, they are now coming into clinical practice for the evaluation of neuropathology in individual patients. This book provides the reader with a thorough review of the underlying physical principles of each of these methods, as well as comprehensive coverage of their clinical applications. Topics covered include single- and multiple-voxel MRS techniques, MR perfusion based on both arterial spin labelling and dynamic bolus tracking approaches, and diffusion-weighted imaging, including techniques for mapping brain white matter fiber bundles. Clinical applications are reviewed in depth for each technique, with case reports included throughout the book. Attention is also drawn to possible artifacts and pitfalls associated with these techniques.

MRI has become the preferred noninvasive imaging modality for the heart and great vessels. The substantial technological progress achieved in recent years has provided the user with state of the art MRI systems, but their optimal use can be limited by restricted awareness of the potential patient benefit and the necessity for teaching. This extensively illustrated volume, has been specifically compiled to meet these needs. Essential theoretical background information is provided, and imaging acquisition and potential pitfalls are considered in detail. Most importantly, structured guidelines are provided on the interpretation of clinical data in the wide range of cardiac pathology that can be encountered. Throughout, the emphasis is on the implementation of cardiac MRI in clinical practice.

One of the most important features of nonlinear systems with severaldegrees of freedom is the presence of internal resonances at certainrelations between natural frequencies of different modes. Thismonograph is the first book devoted predominantly to internalresonances in different mechanical systems including those ofpractical importance.
