"Three diseases are involved in most cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and asthma. All of these diseases are growing in prevalence in the Western world, most likely as a consequence of increased enrvironmental pollution and increased exposure to allergens. Reviewing current treatment options, Therapeutic Strategies in COPD helps doctors improve the quality of life of patients suffering from this disease. Each chapter is devoted to a specific group of drugs and features tables and graphs illustrating key points, trial results, and therapeutic protocols, presenting an authoritative and critical appraisal of each one. An integrated resource for the care of COPD patients, the book focuses on the basic mechanisms of action and pharmacology, therapeutic applications, and treatment strategies."--Provided by publisher.

Many international experts collaborated in creating this groundbreaking work, a principal-coding system, and in developing reference films and imaging parameters for the International Classification of HRCT for Occupational and Environmental Respiratory Diseases. The book is an authoritative guide to the recognition of dust diseases of the lung, using radiological imaging techniques, with special emphasis on high-resolution computerized tomography (CT). The classification is a powerful, essential tool for recording patient data on CT in a globally standardized semiquantitative way. The system is also applicable to surveillance and screening for occupational and environmental respiratory diseases. The book is a valuable resource not only for radiologists but for all who work in occupational medicine and public health.

The issues surrounding the regimes of ice-covered areas, international straits, and passage rights of State vessels are analysed for the purpose of assessing the status of law and State practice in Russian Arctic waters. Passage through the Northern Sea Route has for decades been one of the most contentious legal issues in Soviet/Russian - U.S. relations. The jurisdictional claims of the large Arctic coastal States indicate substantial deviation from application of established law of the sea. The regimes of straits used for international navigation and passage rights of State vessels seem subordinate to the regime of ice-covered areas. The main finding is that there are certain elements of consistency in the common interpretation of existing law and the behaviour of these States. These elements seem to have put into action the process of formation of a specific customary international law, as well as implementation and interpretation of the law under the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties.
