La présente édition, établie d'après le manuscrit original de George Sand, peut à juste tire être considérée comme la seule édition authentique à ce jour de « Un hiver à Majorque ». En effet, la première édition de cet ouvrage (Hippolyte Souverain - Paris 1842) comporte un certain nombre de fautes qui ont été reproduites dans les nombreuses éditions successives lesquelles ont été établies d'après l'édition de 1842. Le manuscrit original de George Sand, entièrement de la main de l'auteur qui l'a surchargé de nombreuses corrections et d'importants compléments, est un document particulièrement émouvant où l'on retrouve le souci de précision de George Sand en même temps que le développement de sa pensée attachée à reconstituer, pas à pas, heure par heure, les étapes de sa découverte de l'île de Majorque de ce voyage et de ce séjour dont la relation restera une des plus belles prodcutions des lettres françaises.
