The CSB conference's goal is to facilitate exchange of ideas and collaborations between computer scientists and biologists by presenting cutting-edge computational biology research findings. CSB 2005 includes computer science and mathematical modeling papers containing concise descriptions of the biological problem being solved, and biology papers showing how computation or analysis affects the results. CSB covers microarray data analysis, synthetic biological systems, biomedical applications, evolution and phylogenetics, biological data visualization, functional genomics, protein structures and complexes, high-performance bio-computing, biological data mining, comparative genomics, and pattern recognition.

High-throughput sequencing and functional genomics technologies have given us a draft human genome sequence and have enabled large-scale genotyping and gene expression profiling of human populations. Databases containing large number of sequences, polymorphisms, and gene expression profiles of normal and diseased tissues in different clinical states are rapidly being generated for human and model organisms. Bioinformatics is thus rapidly growing in importance in the annotation of genomic sequences, in the understanding of the interplay between genes and proteins, in the analysis the genetic va

This unique volume presents major developments and trends in bioinformatics and its applications. Comprising high-quality scientific research papers and state-of-the-art survey articles, the book has been divided into five main sections: Microarray Analysis and Regulatory Networks; Machine Learning and Statistical Analysis; Biomolecular Sequence and Structure Analysis; Symmetry in Sequences; and Signal Processing, Image Processing and Visualization. The results of these investigations help the practicing biologist in many ways: in identifying unknown connections, in narrowing down possibilitie

With the Karlsruhe Heart Model (KaHMo) we aim to share our vision of integrated computational simulation across multiple disciplines of cardiovascular research, and emphasis yet again the importance of Modelling the Human Cardiac Fluid Mechanics within the framework of the international STICH study. The focus of this work is on integrated cardiovascular fluid mechanics, and the potential benefits to future cardiovascular research and the wider bio-medical community.
