This retrospective study examines the patients who benefited from a Ross procedure carried by the Professors J. Rubay and G EL Khoury at the Saint Luc University Clinics. It aims at reviewing and comparing the patients according to the technique used for their pulmonary autograph in aortic position: technique of the “total root” versus the one inclusion.
Using the Kaplan-Meier method, we estimated that the overall survival rate of patients is 97 ± 2% for a 7 years period. We also estimated that the probabilities for not-operating at the levels of the pulmonary autograph and the pulmonary homograph are 88 ± 5% and 98 ± 2% respectively for a seven years period.
In aortic position, at the last echografic follow-up (43 months on average), 62 % of the valves had a light insufficiency and 7 % presented a moderate insufficiency. All measured trans- valvular gradients were physiological.
In pulmonary position, 28 % of the valves presented al light insufficiency and 4 % a moderate one. Measured trans- valvular gradients were higher than those observed at the aortic valve level. They were also higher in the group of patients operated with the “total root” technique.
More over, 13 % of the patients presented a light stenos with a trans-valvular gradient inferior to 40 mm Hg.
The Ross surgery also ensures an optimized regression of hypertrophy and dilatation of the left ventricle foe the majority of patients presenting a deterioration before undergoing surgery.
Finally, at the last follow-up, our results highlighted the presence of an aorta root dilatation level in 14 % cases.
At the sight of these results, we can’t affirmed that the technique root is preferable to the technique inclusion. However, the probability of no autograph reoperation is upper with the technique root Cette étude rétrospective porte sur les patients ayant bénéficiés d’une opération de Ross réalisée par le Prof J. Elle a pour objectif de revoir les patients et de les comparer en fonction de la technique d’implantation de l’autogreffe pulmonaire en position aortique : technique du « total root » versus technique d’inclusion.

Par ailleurs, 13% des patients présentaient une sténose légère dont le gradient trans- valvulaire était inférieur à 40 mm Hg.
La chirurgie de Ross assure également une régression optimale de l’hypertrophie et de la dilatation du ventricule gauche chez la majorité des patients ainsi qu’une récupération de la fonction globale du ventricule gauche pour les patients présentant une altération avant la chirurgie.
Nos résultats ont mis en évidence la présence d’une dilatation de la racine aortique chez 14% des patients au dernier suivi.
A la vue de ces résultats ,nous ne pouvons pas affirmer qu’une technique est préférable à l’autre. Cependant, nous avons constaté une probabilité de ne pas ré intervenir au niveau de l’autogreffe supérieur dans le groupe root
