Abstract

Synchronization processes bring about dynamical order and lead tospontaneous development of structural organization in complex systemsof various origins, from chemical oscillators and biological cells tohuman societies and the brain. This book provides a review and adetailed theoretical analysis of synchronization phenomena in complexsystems with different architectures, composed of elements withperiodic or chaotic individual dynamics. Special attention is paid tostatistical concepts, such as nonequilibrium phase transitions, orderparameters and dynamical glasses.

Abstract

Numerical Methods for Linear Control Systems Design and Analysis is an interdisciplinary textbook aimed at systematic descriptions and implementations of numerically-viable algorithms based on well-established, efficient and stable modern numerical linear techniques for mathematical problems arising in the design and analysis of linear control systems both for the first- and second-order models. MATLAB-based software is included for implementing all of the major algorithms from the book.* Unique coverage of modern mathematical concepts such as parallel computations, second-order system

Abstract

As mechanisms grow in size and complexity, safety and reliability become of paramount importance. Such complexity makes the assessment of reliability and safety particularly difficult. Kolowrocki delivers the complete elaboration of the asymptotic approach to reliability evaluation. The text is mathematical, but applications of these methods cover wide range of engineering fields, from communication networks and microelectronic devices to transportation systems, piping transportation of water, gas, oil and various chemical substances.* Only reference with on asymptotic approach to reli

Abstract

This book presents a development of the frequency-domain approach to the stability study of stationary sets of systems with discontinuous nonlinearities. The treatment is based on the theory of differential inclusions and the second Lyapunov method. Various versions of the Kalman-Yakubovich lemma on solvability of matrix inequalities are presented and discussed in detail. It is shown how the tools developed can be applied to stability investigations of relay control systems, gyroscopic systems, mechanical systems with a Coulomb friction, nonlinear electrical circuits, cellular neural networks

Abstract

This 2004 volume offers a broad overview of developments in the theory and applications of state space modeling. With fourteen chapters from twenty-three contributors, it offers a unique synthesis of state space methods and unobserved component models that are important in a wide range of subjects, including economics, finance, environmental science, medicine and engineering. The book is divided into four sections: introductory papers, testing, Bayesian inference and the bootstrap, and applications. It will give those unfamiliar with state space models a flavour of the work being carried out as well as providing experts with valuable state of the art summaries of different topics. Offering a useful reference for all, this accessible volume makes a significant contribution to the literature of this discipline.
