In Antwerpen was de voorbije decennia een dichter bezig in hoog tempo een oeuvre op te bouwen dat klonk als een klok, waarin een lichte vorm van retoriek niet werd geschuwd, waarin geen levensvraag te groot of te klein werd geacht, kortom een oeuvre zoals dat in Holland niet bestond en eigenlijk niet kon bestaan. Het gezaghebbende tijdschrift Modern Poetry in Translation King's Collgege, Londen) noemde hem 'the most authentic and uncompromising poetic voice writing in Dutch at the moment'. Laat alle deuren op een kier van Leonard Nolens (1947) bundelt voor de eerst keer alle veertien tussen 1975 en 2003 verschenen titels en vormt al dus de vijfde, zeer vermeerderde druk van zijn gedichten. Het besef dat het hier om een van onzer belangrijkste dichters gaat, brak door tioen 'liefdes verklaringen' in Nederland werd bekroond met de Jan Campertprijs, in Belgïe met de driejaarlijkse Staatsprijs. Deze bundel, een van de hoogtepunten uit 'laat alle deuren op een kier', werd door de critici unaniem lovend onthaald.

The great influence of the work of Henri Bergson on contemporary philosophy is only now becoming clear. Part of this renaissance in Bergsonism is due to Gilles Deleuze and Emmanuel Levinas, both of whom have acknowledged Bergson as an inspiration for their philosophy. Bergson's key philosophical concept is "duration", which encompasses both memory and life. "The Challenge of Bergsonism" analyses this central but complex concept through a close reading of one of Bergson's key works, "Matter and Memory", setting it in the broader context of Bergson's writings. The text explores how Bergsonism questions our ways of thinking, particularly the concept of reality, and ultimately demands a return to ethics. It also includes an English translation of Jean Hyppolite's highly influential essay, "Various Aspects of Memory in Bergson".
