The demand is exploding for complete, integrated systems that sense, process, manipulate, and control complex entities such as sound, images, text, motion, and environmental conditions. These systems, from hand-held devices to automotive sub-systems to aerospace vehicles, employ electronics to manage and adapt to a world that is, predominantly, neither digital nor electronic. To respond to this design challenge, the industry has developed and standardized VHDL-AMS, a unified design language for modeling digital, analog, mixed-signal, and mixed-technology systems. SystemC has received a wide acceptance by users and tool vendors as the next generation system description language in order to deal with higher levels of abstraction for complex SoC designs. SystemC Methodologies and Applications gives a comprehensive survey on the state of the art of SystemC in industry and research. Organised into 11 self-contained chapters, selected SystemC experts present their approaches in the domains of -modelling, -analysis, -synthesis. Their contributions range from mixed signal and discrete system to embedded software. The chapters give a broad overview of recent advances in SystemC methodologies and applications and are mainly based on presentations given at the European SystemC User Group meetings.

CTL is a language that is used to represent test information. It is being developed as a standard within the IEEE framework. The proposed standard IEEE 1450.6 namely the Core Test Language (CTL) has its beginnings in the IEEE 1500 standardization activity as the language to represent test information about a core. The language has been designed to be generally applicable for a number of activities in digital IC testing. This book is focused on describing CTL. CTL for Test Information of Digital ICS is an example-oriented book on CTL that is written with the goal of getting the reader to think like the creators of CTL. Most of the explanations are limited to very simple examples so that the netlist (design) can be drawn out for better visualization of the concepts. There are two types of example CTL syntax in this book. Examples that explain the use of CTL and examples that describe syntax and semantics of the language as it is being introduced. This book should be read by anyone who is interested in testing integrated circuits. The contents of this book are especially relevant to the segment of the industry that is developing cores and/or using cores in system-on-chip methodologies.

Computer science and engineering curricula have been evolving at a fast pace to keep up with the developments in the area. There are separate books available on assembly language programming and computer organization. There is a definite need to support the courses that combine assembly language programming and computer organization. The book is suitable for a first course in computer organization. The style is similar to that of the author's assembly language book in that it strongly supports self-study by students. This organization facilitates compressed presentation of material. Emphasis is also placed on related concepts to practical designs/chips. Topics and features: - material presentation suitable for self-study; - concepts related to practical designs and implementations; - extensive examples and figures; - details provided on several digital logic simulation packages; - free MASM download instructions provided; - end-of-chapter exercises.

This text is an adaptation of Floyd's best-selling Digital Fundamentals-widely recognized as the authority in digital electronics texts-that also applies basic VHDL concepts to the description of logic circuits. It introduces digital logic concepts and functions in the same way as the original book, but with an emphasis on PLDs rather than fixed-function logic devices. Fundamental concepts of digital logic form the core of the book, while VHDL is presented as a tool for implementing the digital logic in programmable logic devices. Complete, up-to-date coverage, from the basic digital logic concepts to the latest in digital signal processing, is provided.

This volume contains the papers presented at the 5th International Workshop on Advanced Parallel Processing Technologies, APPT 2003. This series of workshops is designed to strengthen the cooperation between the German and Chinese institutions active in the area of these technologies. It has continued to grow, providing an excellent forum for reporting advances in parallel processing technologies. The 5th workshop itself addressed the entire gamut of related topics, ranging from the architectural aspects of parallel computer hardware and system software to the applied technologies for novel applications. For this workshop, we received over 191 full submissions from researchers all over the world. All the papers were peer-reviewed in depth and qualitatively graded on their relevance, originality, signi?cance, presentation, and the overall appropriateness for their acceptance. Any concerns raised were discussed in the program committee. The organizing committee did an excellent job in selecting 78 papers (Among them, 21 were short ones) for presentation. In short, the papers included here represent the forefront of research from China, Germany, and the other countries.
