The book sets out to extend the constricted view of linguistics that the discipline itself has favoured so far. Language performance, the ›eternally recurring work of the mind‹ (Humboldt), is seen here as the focal concern of linguistic theory formation. The articles essay a revision of what linguistics is centrally about from four different perspectives: the discussion of scientific theory, the practice of linguistic analysis, research on language teaching and learning, and the discussion on norms. »Sprache und mehr« . dieses Buch soll dazu beitragen, den disziplinär verengten Blick auf den Gegenstand der Sprachwissenschaft zu weiten. Die Performanz, die »ewig sich wiederholende Arbeit des Geistes« (Humboldt), wird in den Fokus der sprachwissenschaftlichen Theoriebildung gerückt. Die einzelnen Beiträge nehmen eine Neukonturierung des Gegenstands der Sprachwissenschaft unter folgenden vier Perspektiven vor: wissenschaftstheoretische Diskussion, linguistische Analysepraxis, Sprachlehr- und Lernforschung, Normdiskussion.
