Qu'est-ce que le corps ? Pourquoi une éthique du corps est-elle nécessaire ? Comment penser le corps ? Ce qui est unique dans un corps humain c'est qu'il est « l'incarnation » d'une personne, le lieu où naissent et se manifestent nos désirs, nos sensations et nos émotions, le moyen par lequel nous pouvons démontrer quelle sorte d'êtres moraux nous sommes. Parce que la médecine, le droit, la publicité, la sexualité se rapportent au corps mais ne s'attachent guère à réfléchir sur ce qu'est un corps, sur les comportements permis ou interdits à son égard, il est aujourd'hui urgent de penser le corps. C'est ce à quoi s'attache cette réflexion de philosophie pratique, augmentée de nombreux documents, afin de montrer l'importance d'une reconnaissance de la valeur du corps et d'un certain droit d'en disposer.
