As a recent Mori poll has confirmed, people are becoming increasingly interested in architecture and the built environment. There are now more books, TV programmes and exhibitions on architecture than at any time before; architecture festivals, networks and conferences are springing up everywhere. The phenomena can be observed all over Europe, and Scotland is no exception. Importantly, as well as creating exciting new buildings and spaces across the breadth of the country, Scottish architects are working on significant projects abroad. At the same time exibitions on aspects of Scotland's architecture are touring here and overseas. This book charts these recent developments. A variety of commentators involved in the scene range over a number of contemporary issues-- the National Programme linked to the Policy on Architecture, the relationship of architecture to both landscape and art, community involvement/participation, the role of younger architects as well as the built heritage. This book aims to satisfy the growing public interest in Scotland's built environment by featuring some of the most interesting projects completed in Scotland in the past two years.
